Transmission oil cooler line failure - Repair

You can fit two jubilee clips on. I fit good quality branded ones and also carefully spray grease into the worm screw to get them very tight. TBH it’s as good as crimped really. Personally I would replace the whole flexi hose sections for brand new and re-secure with jubilee clips as it will be...

Disco 2 Brake pedal problem when towing weight

I don't think that extra weight would make any difference it it's not showing any problems with 2.8t. TBH I hadn't read the whole thread and didn't realise you'd just changed the master cylinder - anything you've just altered in any way is always going to be the most likely suspect.

Disco 2 Brake pedal problem when towing weight

Looking at the PDF linked above it sounds like they have replaced a load sensing valve with an EBD system on the ABS modulator - not great in my general opinion and part of the reason Discos and P38s often seem to be weaker braking that pickup trucks and vans loaded to similar weights despite...

    Hub stake nut

You really need a 3/4" breaker bar but if the head is suitably hardened on a 1/2" you might get away with it. Put socket and breaker bar on nut after forcing out where it was staked with a punch. Then use a jack to lift the breaker bar but slide some strong steel tube or box section on the...

Disco 2 Brake pedal problem when towing weight

For these symptoms on a general towing commercial vehicle normally it would imply a problem with either the load sensing valve or the rear brakes. In normal operation less brake force is applied to prevent the rear wheels locking up when more weight is imposed the valve opens up and allows more...

    Td5 disco 2 wouldn't start

Really, all this time and I never thought of that - (of course I have) the fob won't work although it works normally and works again fine without any resyncing type faff when the battery is reconnected for the second time.

    Td5 disco 2 wouldn't start

Well the issue is coming from the vehicle being locked and the battery going dead so is opened with key rather than remote and the bonnet is open then powered back up. When you put another battery in the car basically remembers it was last left locked and hasn't been unlocked properly so off the...

    Td5 disco 2 wouldn't start

The alarm will go off when you reconnect it. If what you describe worked I wouldn't need to bother disconnecting the battery again. The same happens if I put a fresh battery in, The issue seems to occur with the alarm when the battery has gone completely flat in the vehicle. If you don't touch...

    Td5 disco 2 wouldn't start

You'll see it because it definitely works and I use it reliably every time the vehicle is left and the battery goes flat. Jump it and the alarm goes off and fob won't work. Disconnect battery, touch terminals together, reconnect and it's all fine.

    P38A EAS lines

Upload a pic of the damage there might be a way to repair. Don’t faff with getting the line out of the bag just chop the line somewhere it’s comfortably accessible and use a pushfit connector to join it back up. It’s a good idea to put brand new line in a new air bag any time you fit one then...

    Diagnostic Tool?

I don't rate Lynx really in any case but I emailed and asked if I upgraded to Evo for the LR3 and returned my original Lynx unit for the P38 would they add the P38 upgrade pack to the Evo and they refused which seemed a very poor attitude to customers who've previously invested in a system...

    Diagnostic Tool?

Sorry that's the problem with it I meant. To be fair for most people who might upgrade their Land Rover every couple of years £60 isn't too bad on Gap iiD. If you've got six different vehicles it's still getting neare £1k, with each vehicle, including the original unit purchase for Gap iiD which...

    Diagnostic Tool?

Don't touch Lynx Hawkeye is OK as an option, and worth the money, if you have a lot of different Land Rover models and years in your ownership. Gap iiD by far the best of the other options but like Nanocom vin locked so on all but two vehicles I muddle by with a combination of Hawkeye and the...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Yes but that is unusual for a P38. TDV6s and TD5s with 150k+ with no need for a head gasket change are ten a penny and certainly on the former the headlining won't be drooping, the heated seats will be working, the heater matrix won't be rotted through, there'll be a fraction of the problems...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Don't touch it the only reason not to MOT is because it almost certainly won't pass. This has got 12 months MOT and it's make offer so if you could get it down to around £1500 someone will bit your hands off on ebay for the roof rails for £350 or more and you'd be down to near the same money...

6-Wheel Drive Discovery II - Am I totally mad ?

See if you can find any local HGV repair place with mobile column lifts (most will have these) you could tuck in the corner of and pay them a sensible amount to rent the space. As they're mobile you can take them to the vehicle so you won't occupy a, for example, two post lift repair bay - I use...

6-Wheel Drive Discovery II - Am I totally mad ?

If you mean D4 the Navy had converted to a fifth wheel and demountable body it was only 6x4, for the extra weight, not 6x6 which is a trickier prospect. The most costly and time consuming part of the project would be making a camper body that was aesthetically pleasing. I have built vehicle...

    Td5 disco 2 wouldn't start

Seem to recall something identical or very similar symptom wise to this with a someone's Disco 2 and it was slightly loose battery terminals. I remember it because battery and alternator voltage seemed to be all good so dismissed it originally. You would think if it was too loose there would...

    3 amigo lights

It can give spurious faults that reset after switching off. If it doesn't readily come back on don't bother too much although I think it will trigger a hard fault after a certain number of potentially spurious ones (ie caused by random unique conditions like water getting somewhere it shouldn't...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

I've run lots of all the big Disco & RR options of these as elderly (10 year old+) vehicles for prolonged periods of time clocking up probably 25k+ miles during ownership and have several now, including a lot of commercial towing. I do all my own work as I'm a commercial vehicle mechanic so only...
