Time to Start Doing a Few Jobs

Shameless bump! Anyone? Also got around to replacing the passenger front door lock and gave the window mechanism a good clean and spray with some silicon. Hopefully should avoid any probs in the future with that one!

However, given the possible issues that can emerge with the IRD, i was wondering about the merits of putting the prop back on. I think i will install (hopefully) the new carriers, put it back on and see what "noises" eminate from within! That will also give me a clue as to what further jobs...

New carriers ready to go on, that is if i ever get the old ones off. So far only succeeded in getting the prop sections off. I cut the rubber off so my puller would go over to grip the bearings but my vice broke yesterday so will try again today.

Seems a bit weird driving around with the prop off. I kind of got used to all the "sounds" that my transmission was making, and now its silent! Doesnt feel that different on the road though. However, i was wondering about putting the prop back on yet as one of the noises it was making prior to...

    Broken down . Advice please

I had the exact same symptoms although mines the 1.8. I called out the AA and it was the small wire going into the starter, They get all cruded up. Simply slid it off and on a couple of times and all was well. Same as you, had power but suddenly after being fine, just wouldnt turn over.

The bearings look completely shot. Most of the rubber is degraded and torn. The bearings dont sound too good either.

So far today i managed to finally replace the reverse light switch so i now have my parking sensors working again, and have replace all (leaking) camshaft oil seals. Nice easy job that one. While i had the sprokets off i replaced the timing belt as well. Then i have moved onto the dreaded VCU...

Again, cheers for the response. I think ill just go with the hangers this time around as i think others have had similar sucess with the "wheel up" test. The only noise i can comare it too is once i had another car (BMW) and i had a failed cv joint and the noise is similar to that. Will get some...

Cheers for the info. So far (although im not sure how good my hearing is!) it doesnt appear to move, and can best be described as a fast knocking sound that defo appears to be coming from the middle, just behind the front seats. A lot better since replacing the diff mounts. It might also be...

Does the propshaft hangers sound about right peeps or could it be something else? Hope all are well.

Time to Start Doing a Few Jobs

As i said before, the knocking appears to be coming from just behind the front seats. I think that maybe this would tie in with the position of that rear propshaft carrier. It might also be worth mentioning that the camber of the road appears to make a difference to the severity of the noise as...

Time to Start Doing a Few Jobs

Have been putting up with my banging noise when going round corners for a while now and it has been getting steadily worse, even to the point of now starting to do it occasionally while going in a straight line, and going on most of the advice ive seen, thought it was the dreaded VCU, however i...

still getting a nice parts box put by, even though i havent done any work yet. Still waiting for my hols. The next few things i have started to concern myself with are my sagging roof lining. The dealer i bought the car from steam cleaned the interior and did a lovely job however, every single...

Many thanks for the interior info. Just on the look out for an alcantara seat in that colour. A bit rare. I think rimmers sell original squabs to go over the foam, but will only do that as a last resort as they are nearly 300 quid from them. Will keep an eye on eblag in the meantime!

Thanks for the info. That is indeed the switch i have got and indeed, the one everyone says is the correct one for my car. Serves me right for relying on dodgy youtube vidoes where someone has advised that on the 1.8, the switch is the one at the lower front left of the box, with the multiplug...

Shameless bump for this one. Has anyone got any pics/photos of one of these switches on the car, so i may compare it with mine?

I have also checked with no less than four different parts suppliers regarding the reverse light switch and all come up with the one i ordered from eblag! Confusing! Does this mean i have to cut and join the wires???
