S3 Stalling on deceleration - Help!

How would I diagnose that? It’s possible. Very occasionally I find I need a second pump on the brake pedal after which it bites sooner. Running lean - perhaps. I did richen the mixture a bit but perhaps I’ll do it a bit more and then back off the idle.

S3 Stalling on deceleration - Help!

Ok. Had the carb body off - nuts to manifold were barely finger tight. Also undid and checked the pump spring/ diagphram. Reassembled. It’s about 50% better on test driving. Still feel like it wants to stumble and stall on decel from 5-0 mph, but doesn’t always do so. Interesting new finding...

S3 Stalling on deceleration - Help!

Thanks Col. I recently changed the fuel filter so that should be doing it’s job. I’ve just dug up the Weber instructions do have the info on how to set the mixture and idle. I’ll definitely try that. I’m wondering if I might have a membrane gone in the carb - I can hear a sucking/hissing if I...

S3 Stalling on deceleration - Help!

Thanks Phill. I assume the tickover stop is the part on the throttle linkage/choke that is set with the brass screw on the side of the carb? It starts fine from cold without choke, idles ok. I’ve turned the idle up a bit this morning to try and stop the revs dropping so much on decel and then...

S3 Stalling on deceleration - Help!

Hi all, would be very grateful for some advice: S3 2.25 petrol. Was running fine last week. Left for a few days then drove yesterday. On slowing to stop at junctions, truck is stalling. Will restart instantly on the key. I changed the fan belt late last week, and ran with it for approx 20...

    Series 3 2.2 petrol oil?

Thanks for the info on this, just ordered some. Much better value than the Halfords stuff I’d been using.

S3 indicator stalk/switches? Clean or replace

Ok. Had a look. Loose contact on the power wire aggravated by the up/ down motion of the indicator stalk. Construction was a copper rivet joining a contact to the switch body. That rivet was slightly loose. Compress with needlenose pliers and a dab of solder. Seems ok now, time will tell if it’s...

S3 indicator stalk/switches? Clean or replace

Fair question. I have no idea. I guess I take it apart and look for a makers mark?

S3 indicator stalk/switches? Clean or replace

Thanks all. I will attempt to save the original. I had wondered about solder so will see how the contacts are when I pull it apart.

S3 indicator stalk/switches? Clean or replace

Folks - my headlights stop working after I’ve indicated. A quick pull on the stalk (ie, a high beam flash) restores the headlight. So clearly there is a contact issue in the stalk. Can switches be cleaned? Do the contacts just wear out? Do I clean or replace? Replacements are £14 for...

    S3 Light switch oddness

Hey, thanks for these. The dash wiring diagram helped me sort it out. I had got one of the power wires on the wrong terminal. I thought I’d looked properly when removing the old switch but on installing the new one I put the blue wire on the inboard terminal, but the diagram showed it should...

    S3 Light switch oddness

The 3 position switch for off-side- headlight failed. It began not to turn off properly and needed wiggling. New switch bought from Bearmach via eBay and fitted. Works. But now its off- headlights - sidelights. Which is the wrong order. Switch has 4 wires. Two are thin and go to top and...

Hood Sticks/parts - Britpart or Exmoor?

Quick update for completeness: I ordered all the bits I needed from John Craddock. Took a while to deliver due to some stuff on back order. Essentially I got a full hood stick set minus the screen rail and front hoop as I already had these. Free delivery though. I had expected all Britpart...

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

It’s a fair question. My s3 will do 60, just ;-) My truck is matt green and people tend to be late seeing me at junctions on B roads etc. Seemed that a simple headlight upgrade might help.

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

Thanks all, much appreciated. How do I know what sort/size relay to buy? I understand the principle but have never done it before!

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

Anyone fitted one of the kits on offer eg https://www.paddockspares.com/pm1039-halogen-headlamp-conversion-kit-rhd-with-ring-ultra-xenon-bulbs.html Seems good for £30 or so. Allegedly simple wiring. I’d be interested to hear any comments . Is there any concern about it being an “upgrade”...

Is it possible to make a Series hard top completely water tight?

Mine is quite good. A little dribble by the passenger door seal. What I have found is that after removing hardtop for summers and then refitting it leaks differently. I think it’s important to get the windscreen to hardtop bolts done up first and then work backwards. Also I think slacking off...

Hood Sticks/parts - Britpart or Exmoor?

Yes, that’s been my experience with longer or higher speed runs - engine temps stay very stable, but transmission does get warm. I’ve read somewhere that the cooling systems are very good because the engine had to cope with periods of running while stationary, in order to drive the power take...

Hood Sticks/parts - Britpart or Exmoor?

Impressive. Genuine question- what’s it like doing really long distance in S3? Obviously noisy and slow. But engine/ gearbox / cooling / oil all did ok with prolonged running and higher speeds?
