    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Well, it won't be long before it's finally on the road properly, so we'll find out once and for all then..........

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

When I get the car on the road properly, I will test for revs as the attitude laden Freelance suggests, but the difference in revs while pulling forward slightly is quite significant. It could be, as suggested, a worn gear selector, but it certainly doesn't feel that way.

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Yeah, thanks for that Freelance. Is this the attitude you bring to all of your members who ask a genuine question? consider yourself ignored.

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

It's 04, Hippo, definitely freelander 1, but it is a high specification edition. There's a thought, would a Freelander 2 box fit into a Freelander 1?

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Okay, I promised video and pics. The pics aren't that great, limited access with the engine tray in place as I'm sure you all know, but the gear selection video appears to be pretty definitive. Because the video is 167Mb, I've uploaded it to Youtube, here's the link:

Indeed it is. I just wondered if it was an option or was a mod, that was all.....................

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

No, Gel, I'm serious. It's a six forward speed box. Six forward, one reverse. As I said, I didn't know until I accidentally knocked it into sixth.

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Lol, okay. I'll video the gear selection tomorrow and take photos too. I will say this though, the box has slight differences to the one on my Freelander S, for example, the reversing light switch is just to the rear of the 1st gear switch instead of further back or on top of the box.

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Anyone wants to come and have a look to verify they're more than welcome. I put it into fifth, then up into sixth to get a feel for the difference, and there's quite a bit between the two.

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Will video the gears being selected tomorrow, and will video the gearbox too. The 4wd seems to be functional, at least the propshaft is in place and driving the rear wheels.

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Nope, definitely six forward gears. Couldn't believe it myself until I accidentally put in into sixth. 2, 4 and reverse are back, 1, 3, 5, and six are all forward. Can post a video of the box in use, but can't do it moving till road legal (MOT etc...)

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

Lol, normally, yes. This one has six forward one reverse! Looking forward to trying it out on a long trip.

    Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

I've discovered that my 04 Freeby 1.8 manual HSE has a six speed gearbox. Now, I can imagine the thoughts, "how did he not know his motor had a six speed box?", but as the beastie hasn't been running, and the gearstick isn't marked, nor is the gearbox casing, how was I to know???.... Does anyone...

    04 1.8 Freelander HSE

'nother update, went out to the motor today, and she slipped into gear just fine. Don't think it was the clutch hydraulics after all, must have been a sticky clutch plate.

    04 1.8 Freelander HSE

No idea, looks like it's been in place for a long time, there's some corrosion on the shaft to the slave, but there are no LR marks or numbers that I can see.

Freelander 1 Starting okay but then cuts out......

Who said owning a Freelander wasn't fun! I've just replaced the tailgate regulator on my other Freebie too an 01 1.8 S 3 door. Need to replace ABS sensors on that, replaced N/Side wishbone, Off side wheel bearing, N/Side cv joint, Off side driveshaft assembly, and vcu bearings. Now I have to...

    04 1.8 Freelander HSE

Actuating arm is free, if a little stiff. will work on that. After all I've forked out, it'll just have to be two tyres for now. Supposed to be 215\65 R16 all round, but someone mixed front and rear before I bought it. 215's on the front, but 205's on the rear.

    04 1.8 Freelander HSE

Okay, a wee update. Engine now runs beautifully, thanks to my friendly local specialist. I now find that I need to replace the clutch hydraulics. after that, all being equal, it'll be two new tyres, devising a back box hanger, check the brakes and put her in for an MOT. Wish her luck! :rolleyes...
