    That's great. Thanks very much.:D

    Defender Center Silencer

I have 2006 Defender 90 TD5. The previous owner replaced the centre silencer with a straight through pipe. This makes the vehicle too noisy for me and I would like to re-instate the centre silencer. My problem is that I'm not entirely sure that I have a standard exhaust. It would be really...

    Rear Suspension Woes

I can try those suggestions, thanks. I'm guessing this needs to be done without jacking the car.

    Rear Suspension Woes

We were driving our 90 TD5 along a section of the M25 in the nearside lane amongst very slow moving traffic (30mph ish). The section we were on looked to be constructed of roughly 4m x 4m concrete slabs and the surface was in very poor general condition. As we passed over the joins between each...

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

That's interesting, I just ran the engine with the vehicle stationary and I gave it about 5 minutes before I concluded there was no cold air. I'm also guessing that if the pressure switch proves to be faulty, the system will have to be depressurised to change it.

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

You make it sound very simple Neil. :) As I mentioned in my original post, there is no power getting to the clutch. If I feed power to it directly, it sounds like its engaging but there's no cold air. Out of interest, it it possible to check the refrigerant level visually?

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

Thanks a lot, I will check it out when I get home. If it all looks OK I think I'll take lightning's advice and drop it into a specialist next week.

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

That sounds simple enough to check. Excuse my ignorance but where is this located?

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

No, the switch lights up and the fan runs but there is no power at the compressor clutch. If i feed in power manually, direct from the battery, the clutch engages but there's no cold air. I swapped the relays around last night but to no avail, it seems they are all working.

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

When I took it in for charging they didn't actually do anything. They told me it was fully charged.

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

I found this on another forum and found it helpful so I thought I'd re-post here. I'll further investigate the problem later with the aid of the diagram.

    Defender Puma Air Conditioning Problem

The factory fitted air con on my 2007 Defender 90 TDCi has not worked since I bought it last year. I had the system recharged but that didn't fix the problem and I basically forgot about it until I became motivated by the recent warm spell of weather. I undertook some basic diagnostics at the...

    Bulkhead Welding

Thanks, that's very helpful. I'm probably looking at £50 max for the bulkhead repair panels so hardly worth shopping around. When can you come and fit them?? :D

    Bulkhead Welding

Ha, ha. That would be a great plan if I had more time. I already get a bit of grief for spending too much time tinkering with the car!

    Bulkhead Welding

Unfortunately I can't supply pictures. One side is much worse than the other but it's definitely a welding job! There is also a bit of work to do on one of the footwells but that is clearly straightforward. If I use a mobile welder I can definitely do the strip down to reduce the cost. The...

    Bulkhead Welding

I'm thinking of buying a Defender 90 which is in need of some restoration. Most of the work I can do myself but it's going to need some welding on the two upper corners of the bulkhead and that's beyond my level of ability. Before I commit to buying the vehicle I'd like an idea of what would be...

    Shock Absorber Replacement Problem

After leaving everything compressed on the bare shock overnight and then working quickly, I managed to get the nut thread to "bite" on both the top and bottom mountings. Strangely. the RH side was OK at the first attempt so that's now done as well. The only bit I'm still unsure about is how...

    Shock Absorber Replacement Problem

The springs aren't the issue here. The extended shock is plenty long enough to reach both mounting points, it's simply that the threaded posts need to be 5mm - 10mm longer or the rubber bushes 2mm shorter. It's cold and wet here now so I'm going to give it another go tomorrow if the weather...

    Shock Absorber Replacement Problem

Thanks for the replies. As requested, I've added a photo which shows the problem. I have since found that if I don't put the shock into the mounting I can just about get the nut started. So, I've installed the bush assemblies on the bare shock and tightened up the nuts. Hopefully the rubber...
