    LT77 oil seal renewal

Hi, I have got ATF (red) like a slow bleeding from the guts, dripping from the gearbox, it seems to have got worse over recent months since nearly everything leaks on my LR90. Doesn't seem to be running out from the bell housing bottom bolt hole, no that's more like engine oil, but could be...

    Rebuild project finished!

Cheers, What is condensed here into 2mins only took a year and a half in real time! Much procrastination, problem solving (got the chassis thinking I'd use the 200tdi so engine mounts weren't compatible) and patient waiting for parts and/or advice contributed to the overall project time.

I thought I'd share the link to my first 90 rebuild slideshow video: Hope you like it!

    New speedo cable doesn't fit!

Thanks, that is interesting. Its a faded yellowish plastic drive which I removed from the old box and refitted in the vehicle. The one in the (TD5?) box was black. It makes sense to use the original one, but what size tyres? I got this 10 years ago with 205's fitted, and put road tyres on with a...

    New speedo cable doesn't fit!

Brilliant! That's all very helpful, thanks. I found that the drive in the old box, the one off the vehicle, was stuck so fast I had to remove the output shaft/bearing housing assembly off to knock it out from the inside. I extracted the mini spindle part 16 as above, without müllering the...

    New speedo cable doesn't fit!

Yes, I have another transfer box off a 110 on there, which I was informed had not done too much work, but I wasn't actually aware of anything wrong with the old one. The square cable drive fits fine in the old box, but won't even reluctantly fit in the current one.

    New speedo cable doesn't fit!

@Rougharse Racing Ah, OK that is very helpful, I'll try and extract that speedo drive first thing. It is a very cheap cable

    New speedo cable doesn't fit!

Hi folks, I'm at the final stages of the 90 rebuild. A new replacement speedo cable (cheapo) fits the square drive socket on the old transfer box, but not the (also old) replacement box. The square socket on the box I am using is too small to accept the square shaft! Apologies if this is...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

All the weight is on now, the only thing left to go on is the bonnet and bumper, once the auto electrician has visited. The wierdness with (mis)alignment of the shocks in relation to the turrets is still apparent. Can't wait to get it on the road, as I need it for work, and I have been building...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

I must say I don't like the look of it right now! I've just secured the springs with the nearly ¢ shaped retainers, and the springs are a pretty distorted 'S' shape. There isn't enough damper stud poking through to get the bottom bush and locknut on. The problem is mainly the angle, I see I need...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

Thanks all, yes I have heard enough of you say there is nothing to worry about here, and I figure the big nut will tighten down more, bringing the whole axle back a bit. I can see that when the front end is loaded with its guts, that will bring the top and bottom spring seats more parallel. I...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

None whatsoever flat, except that by 'hockey sticks' I presume you mean 'the radius arms'? Having pulled my 1988 land rover 90 to bits, there was quite a bit of slop with those components, as the bushes were totally worn out. But even with everything firmed up with the new polybushes packing...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

As you say, the advice on those threads is to get some weight on there. A variation in geometry should be flagged up, but wouldn't necessarily be recorded by land rover in their workshop manuals. I haven't secured the bolts that fix the radius arms to the axle, so will try and bring the axle...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

On the first link, he has posted two pics. The 2nd pic shows the radius bone connected to the chassis bone. As you said, as the weight builds from above, that will come down and the angle will look right. The 2nd pic shows the problem I've described. I have new polybushes, and everything is in...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

Ok, I don't mean to be awkward, and to be fair I'm the novice and you're all experienced at this. But there is a clear difference in distance of at least half an inch from the radius arm mount on the chassis to the center of the spring pad mounts on the axle. Those mounts (can you see the pic I...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

This is a rebuild on a new Marsland galvanized chassis, which I was sure is built to the highest standards of accuracy. I ordered a 200tdi version, but my local 4x4 chap saw it and said "why did you order a Td5 one?". Still, I doubt they would change the geometry?

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

That's what I was told. Discovery 1 and early defenders/90. But I have measured the radius arms to the middle of the spring mounts, and the disco ones are longer by 1/2".
