    2002 td5 auto gearbox problem

I have a problem with my Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5, it's a 1999 reg, automatic. It struggles to go though the gears, e.g when putting foot to the ground on accelerator, it stays in gear to for a while and doesn't like to change, but when driven 'sensibly' it goes through the gears sweet. I...

TD5 lack of power under load.

The intercooler looos ok no signs of ballooning etc, also the turbo spindle has a slight bit of play in the bearing but nothing to stop turbo from working, it's like the air pressure is eascaping else where before getting to the turbo

I checked it with the meter getting the voltage for each pin engine off and ignition on... and today I have changed the transmission filter and oil?.

TD5 lack of power under load.

Basically when I put my foot down to the floor it sounds like there is no power going to the turbo at all and air is being lost... basically a large humming, rumbling noise when flooring the pedal

TD5 lack of power under load.

They said that they shouldn't need doing and they'll be on, last time they was done was 2012 brand new injectors cost around £1500

TD5 lack of power under load.

O ok I'll probably do the injectors first, I'm worried I'll get it wrong and then it cost a lot of money to sort, that's why I never tried to do them before

TD5 lack of power under load.

I had ordered the injector washers and o rings and was adviced not to do it but a Land Rover garage as he said they're ok? Also the fuel filter I haven't changed so will deffo get that done? Is that difficult to change myself? And where is the FPR located?

TD5 lack of power under load.

Wow not cheap then, that's my best hope to see if a local mechanic has one... would other diagnostic tools work?

TD5 lack of power under load.

I don't have access to a diagnostic, is it worth me getting one?

TD5 lack of power under load.

Simon098 really sorry for the late reply, I've recently checked all what you have said and all seem ok, no issues at all, it seems like there's air escaping when putting foot on pedal and not enough power getting to where it needs to?

TD5 lack of power under load.

Really need some help and advice! My disco 2 is lacking severe performance than it used to! I've checked all areas from the EGR valve, MAP, MAF sensors, changed the turbo control valve, checked the actuator, all pipes to see if any are split, corroded etc, please can someone give me some advice...

Thankyou for the reply sierrafery, At idle the readings are fine, I got advice from land rover and told me to do a reading ignition on and also a reading engine started... the EGR is still on the car, I have been advised to clean it or even blank it?

TD5 lack of power under load.

Hi guys, I'm new to this and flick through all the time, find it very useful. I'm having a similar problem with my disco 2, it's a automatic TD5. I can put my pedal right to the floor and it lacks so much power and seems as if the turbo doesn't want to kick in at all? I've checked the wastegate...
