@admins - please move to the Series Engines forum if more appropriate. ..I'm going to post a few updates and questions here over the next few weeks of this engine work..

Oil spitting from filler - 2.25 petrol

Right, I've got the head off. It had a composite head gasket on which was still complete when I peeled it off the underside of the head.. it's been on a while but it's not blown. I need to clean things up for a proper look at the valves and to measure the bores. I don't know what I will do yet...

Oil spitting from filler - 2.25 petrol

now then.. All cylinders 120 dry, 130 wet. And I’d say it’s puffing gently out the oil filler tube when ticking over, but I don’t know what’s normal? So it seems the compression and head gasket are both reasonable. Maybe the rocker breather was just blocked after all.. unless there are other...

Blimey that's impressive, I didn't know they could get along that well with a ruined head gasket. I'll let you know after the weekend. cheers!

Oil spitting from filler - 2.25 petrol

Do I want to check that if it's spitting oil? With the cap off that could be a face full of oil right? :D It is looking like blowby isn't it. Don't know why it's only just started though. Will do a dry and wet compression test this weekend and share results. Could a head gasket split between...

Oil spitting from filler - 2.25 petrol

I've just took my 2A up to Gaydon for the weekend. It was a 2hr 45m run up to the show and it seemed to run as well as usual but when I next looked in the engine bay she'd been spitting some oil out the oil filler. She didn't have too much oil in.. so as I'd never had the rocker breather off I...

    Scott's Series 2A

Alright! :) I'm back with a small update and a [question I moved to the Series Land Rovers section..] Only thing I've done to her lately is new pinion diff seals front and back as they were both leaking badly, and bled the brakes before taking her up to Gaydon last weekend. That was the first...

    prop shaft gaitor replacement

    Ordered one myself. Cheers!

    prop shaft gaitor replacement

I got the dust caps off with some degreaser heat and gloves for grip. Cheers. Seems it's not worth replacing the gaitor. The one on the front prop is starting to go but it's not actually split yet. Been on there 12 years so far.. probably more life in it than one of the new £3 if this thread is...

    Leaky swivel - maybe?

    Very helpful PDFs Blackburn, cheers!

    prop shaft gaitor replacement

Ah! Is that right? That's the one that's missing one. Any particular reason?

    prop shaft gaitor replacement

I've got both prop shafts off my 2A so I can replace both diff pinion seals. Both props seem good, no UJ wobble and no noticeable spline wear. The gaitor is missing from one and needs replacing on the other. What's the trick for unscrewing the cap on the short half so I can separate the props...

    Leaky swivel - maybe?

Cheers guys. Got some bits and will be seeing if I can't sort this out soon.

    Leaky swivel - maybe?

Thanks Rob that's helpful. So yours was leaking but it wasn't the seal in your case either. I don't have a torque for those nuts but I remember going for 'bloody tight' before bending the tabs over after a bit of road use. I have a feeling my issue might be those studs. The 'special' ones have...

    Leaky swivel - maybe?

I have a late 2A so the swivel bearing housing and swivel pin fixings are the heavier duty ones used on the S3. I fill my shiny disco balls with EP90. The off-side does not leak. The near-side does. Both sides have new seals and retainers and very little wear to said balls. Last night I removed...

    Scott's Series 2A

The dust has settled after moving house now. Took her out for the first proper road trip, couple of hours each way. Leaky swivel the only must do job that arose from that. All I've done since moving is swapped the weber for a zenith. Got some jobs lined up for the winter including possibly a new...

    Scott's Series 2A

As you pointed it out I looked at the photo again and it does look severe so I just went out to check it’s not touching! but up close there’s plenty of space, just a funny angle on the photo and as I say loaded up for our move on Monday

    Scott's Series 2A

It’s loaded up heavy in the back.. including a spare series gearbox and transfer case Among other things. Could just be that?

    Scott's Series 2A

A few shots from a recent trip now the roof is on. I scraped three old coats of black and green off the sides and cat flap with a window scraper. Nice few days in autumn that was with a few beers! Not a final finish of course but at least it’s roughly the right colour now. Astute viewers will...
