So the diff is in high try to pull away goes very slowly in 1st and 2nd gear, get to about 20mph and whirring noise under diff gear stick...yes I have my 1st discovery 2.5 tdi 1994 any ideas THKZ barbadoscherry

yesyesyes I only gone and done it right there is a black oval clip right at the backof the gearbox near the diff in the middle. you need head torch to see it I cleaned it up pushed it on, only goes on one way and bobs your uncle!! Well chuffed with myself Thankz for your help anyway.

Sorry speedo cable my guess is that it has an gearbox change before I got it?
