I had a similar thing happen to me a while back which ended up being the cam followers. Not an expensive job but took a bit of time needing the top half of the engine off. First thing to check is to get your rocker cover off and check the tappet gaps.

I’ll admit I’m guilty of using a screwdriver and hammer before, it works well but probably doesn’t do the threads any good.

As my Tithonus has the roll cage I was able to use it to mount a three point belt for the centre seat.

There was someone selling one on here, I got one loose when I bought my Tithounus, just drilled through and bolted it down. Not sure if it was right but works fine for me.

Interested in this as well. After chucking some redux into my tank the other week I’m getting a fair bit of black smoke and what looks like unburnt diesel covering the back of the truck.

One of my cam followers had a dish worn out of it, I had set the clearances ok but when I removed them it was easy to conclude that if the follower had rolled further it would have dropped into a location where the clearance would have been massive. This could have happened here but...

Yup, going to have a good flush of the oil system.

It is an odd one. I would have thought if there were issues with the cam then there would be problems with all the lobes but there isn't. It could have been a bad batch of followers or possibly a Friday when the engine was overhauled (blue military block).

There is light scoring on a couple of the lobes but overall look pretty bright.

Not sure, I bought it in March this year, don't know much about it before then. The others look bright, shiny and round.
