    Advice for repair.

Unless your timing is irregular (if so, why?), I would start by looking at the injectors. The nozzles are easy to remove and clean. I did mine in an ultrasonic cleaner after a gentle scrape with a piece of hardwood. If no improvements, start looking at the pump.

D2 knew I was going to sell!

I would recommend buying a new hub that has the sensor already fitted. The gap between the reluctor ring (inside the hub) and sensor is critical. By all means try a replacement sensor, but be aware that the gap may require some adjustment.

    19j worth saving ?

....Oh, and make sure that the cooling system is in good order if you do invest some money into it.

    19j worth saving ?

A new set or rings, a cylinder hone and injector service might sort it. If you do take the head off, it's quite common to find cracks in cylinder heads and pistons on the 19J. I wouldn't worry too much about either, as long as you don't intend to work it too hard, although, if you do have the...

    19j worth saving ?

..one thing I forgot to mention- if you do keep it, it may be worth removing the breather feed to the air cleaner and routing it to a seperate catch tank- sometimes these engines breath heavilly and deposit excessive oil in the air filter housing. They can then end up running on their own oil-...

    19j worth saving ?

In my view, that is a well considered summary of the 19J from 300bhp/ton. When I bought my 90 it was fitted with its original 134k 19J and I have to say that it was a very pleasant engine. A little low on power for towing heavy loads on the road perhaps, but just fine for the majority of...

Have a look at Glencoyne Engineering website. Loads of useful information on there related to engine conversions.

200tdi oil coming out of air filter box. Help!!

Have you been driving at extreme angles, maybe off-road? My engine is very healthy, but also does this intermittently. The 200 TDI seems to be very oil level sensitive and I avoid running it at the highest level- somewhere between the two seems to work best. I quickly learnt that if filled to...

    Cylinder heads

As it is an iron head, it's not as likely to warp than an aluminium head, so as others have said, test for flatness first. Chances are it's just fine. Do cover with grease if you store though- don't use WD40 as I have tried in the past- it doesn't provide great long term protection.

Disco 2 TD5 headlining - closest match to OE fabric?

Have a chat with MSJ headliners. I did my 90 with a 4-way stretch fabric and it went on well, but it isn't the original colour or material type and I am hoping to do my D2 with something more authentic.

1st Time Landy Owner - need a garage in Bournemouth area

Worth talking to AL services in Poole or T Johnson in Three-Legged Cross. Both have good reputations, although I haven't personally used either.

90 aftermarket outer wing panel quality

Thanks all for the comments. Paintman Panels looks very promising.

90 aftermarket outer wing panel quality

Thanks. The original panels on mine fitted surprisingly well, but I accept that probably isn't the norm! I don't think I would ever be happy with non-metal, but can anyone recommended a particular supplier?

90 aftermarket outer wing panel quality

Has anyone fitted replacement outer front wing panels to a 90 and are happy with them? I see there are a number of sources, including those manufactured from ABS! Ideally I'm looking for original quality that will just bolt to the original fixing points and have the correct profiles. Too much to...

.....Highly likely you will need a new clutch pushrod too, as the ball knuckle on the end of it wears badly.

    Clutch enquiry

Just doing a TD5 and I would strongly advise including the DMF, especially in view of the amount of work required to get to it. I would budget £500 for parts (full clutch kit with DMF and new bolts) and £1000+ for labour? How much?? I hear you ask? I normally do all my own repairs but didn't...

    Discovery 2 TD5 ECU Schematic

Call me sad, but I wanted to study the architecture of the design - I am an electronic engineer- as well as being armed for failure, should, this happen. I would imagine it's power supply and load switching components that fail first, but I am interested to see how repairable the remainder is...

Disco 2 MOT fail, front body mount

Sounds like you may have ruptured a flexi, popped Master cylinder seals or even one of the metal pipes. The brake pedal gets fairly high pressure during the MOT. If it lost that much fluid before, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will soon be lost again! I would suggest don't drive it...

    Landrover defender 1989

Interesting mileage history- 100k for years then it dropped, then back to 100k then it dropped again! Only by 1 mile though! Having rebuilt a '89 myself, I would suggest that £2500 is a fair offer, as they generaly all need £5k+ spending on them. At least there is a good chance it will be...
