Land Rover 300Tdi to run on veg oil.

Not sure what the E900 (anti foaming agent) would do, but it's silicon based, I suspect that once the carbon atoms are burned off then SiO2 (sand) would be left behind in the engine. But then I'm no chemist!.... The GM soya oil apparently gums up the pistons. In the cash n carry, the GM soya oil...

Land Rover 300Tdi to run on veg oil.

As Busterbus says.... It'll say on the bottle. You usually only get the anti foaming agent in oil from the cash and carry cos it's meant for commercial fryers.

Land Rover 300Tdi to run on veg oil.

I've been running my 300tdi on 50/50 veg oil/ diesel since June. I use new rapeseed svo which is thinner than sunflower oil. I put diesel in first and top up with svo, it takes about 50 miles on road (or 1 mile greenlaning!) to mix it up. Might be worth mixing with derv in jerry cans, but I've...

    bumper

I lost the useless piece of plastic that holds the front number plate 2 weeks ago, number plate is now cable tied to radiator grille. The mid section of the front spoiler is bolted on, going to remove this soon and then hacksaw the lower parts of the side bumper bits. Won't be like it long...

Can't turn the key in the ignition!!

Sorry, got a bit carried away there, It was the steering lock AND the switch that were worn on my disco hence the hammer and chisel approach, like the TheBigLad said, you don't need to hammer the ignition barrel switch off !! :)

Can't turn the key in the ignition!!

If WD40 and graphite doesn't fix it, get a new ignition switch. This happened on my 97 disco, the switch was worn inside. I got a new one from the main dealer as it was quite urgent (£125) but you can get them much cheaper mail order. I used the haynes manual method to remove the old one (very...

    Disco 1 Tow Hitch removal

Went ploughing with my tow hitch on green lanes last weekend, got grounded and had to be winched out. Has anyone removed a disco tow hitch? Does it leave the fuel tank over exposed to damage? Advice needed! Cheers in advance

    runnin on oil

People here say that soya oil gums up the injectors / rings / everything, I've always avoided it, I only use rapeseed oil without the (antifoaming agent E900).

    runnin on oil

I'm concerned what the anti-foaming agent does going through the engine, it's silicon based, so does it burn off or turn into sand! However, BP Ultimate Diesel contains an anti-foaming agent too, maybe it's the same stuff. Can't seem to find out, bet it's top secret!

    GPS for laning?

Hi folks, after blundering down a RUPP today by accident and surviving a nerve wracking downhill gully straddle:eek:, I reckon I need a GPS unit in future, can anyone recommend a PDA (cheap old model that I can get from ebay) that'll take the Memory Map OS maps?

A little bit of help "Forum"

I've got a 97 disco, no idea what the injection pump is, just got fed up with diesel price, so I just started upping the svo / diesel ratio, she runs great up to 50% svo with diesel. But then got silly and put 75% svo in, started jerking, hesitation, wouldn't go above 55mph, quite a bit of black...

A little bit of help "Forum"

Veggielandee...are you using any kind of mods for cooking oil...you mentioned preheaters? I'm running 50/50 cooking oil with no mods, went up to 70% and started to get hesitation and smoke! I guess what I'm asking is, is it worth using a heated fuel filter or other stuff?

    300TDi Fuel Guage

The fuel guage on my 300tdi stays "up" with the ignition off. It don't register changes in level until the ignition goes on again eg when filling up.

    Bleeding Brakes

I've just done mine, cracked a rear caliper whilst greenlaning and lost all fluid in the rear brake system. Bleeding them was easy to do, i used a gunson eezibleed pressure bleed kit (£14) that uses air from the tyres to force in the new fluid. It's well worth taking off the back wheels. The...

    Discovery Radio Problem

There's a thread about this somewhere on here, this has happened to me. You have to put the key in the ignition (engine off) at position 1, for nearly an hour, then the display reverts to "code"

    Help! No rear brakes

Hi all, hoping that someone will know whats wrong! Had a bit of trouble whilst doing a spot of laning today. Ended up with the rear drivers side wheel deep in a watery mud hole, totally stuck. Anyway now back on dry land and the braking is atrocious, noticed that front discs are getting hot and...
