    Egr Blanking Mod

Mine's passed two MOTs now with the mod. I just make sure to blow its nose on my way to the test center.

What have you done to your Freelander today

New wiper linkages, 2x new repeater bulbs, green T5 and T10 LED lights for the heater and instrument panel displays, green LED strip lights for front and rear foot-wells, red 'Das Boot' style LEDs for front and rear cabin lights. A productive (if slightly bling) afternoon. EDIT: After dinner...

What have you done to your Freelander today

New drop links during the week, two new handbrake cables and new self adjusters both sides. Took a couple of goes to set it up correctly - with help from this forum and half a tube of copper grease, I now have the mother of all handbrakes, rear brakes that self-adjust properly and no more noise...

Freelander 1 Drop links fitted correctly?

It won't take long to find out whether they're up to snuff - over a mile of rough farm track and two cattle grids to and from my house. Thanks for the tip - the Delphi look a reasonable price. Lemforder at bit on the ouchy side. Meyle any good?

Freelander 1 Drop links fitted correctly?

Mine were making a hell of racket about six months ago - stuck a cheapo set in and they both failed within a few months going over a cattle grid (nuts facing outwards btw). N/s had about 1/8th" play at the top ball joint end, o/s about 1/2"! Manned up and and bought a Bearmach set - not much...

What have you done to your Freelander today

This arvo I investigated problems with the n/s front window mech (slow and keeps getting stuck). Not the first person in there - the plastic had been cut and taped up by Ray Charles by the look of it... Ran the motor, and head the distinctive noise of broken gears/teeth from the mech, as well as...

    Freelander 1 TD4 electrical/earthing issue

Quick update - a few days on and she's holding charge. Also located the issue with the re-demist: the positive spade terminal had snapped off from the glass. Luckily there was enough still attached to crudely re-fix the live to the terminal using a single choc-bloc connector (soldering iron...

Freelander 1 Clutch low bite point again

Much easier to take it out and do it on the bench. Best of luck.

    Freelander 1 TD4 electrical/earthing issue

Thanks chaps - as usual, great info and a real help. Greatly appreciated. Cheers!

    Freelander 1 TD4 electrical/earthing issue

Had a free hour today so had a play - read around 20ma. Removing fuses in turn didn't change the reading. Before I did this, I discovered the purple and white cables to the HDC switch in the gear lever had been torn off, and were flapping around with bare wires exposed. Soldered them back onto...

    Freelander 1 TD4 electrical/earthing issue

Thanks gents, schoolboy error. Will check the current draw when I get a free hour.

    Freelander 1 TD4 electrical/earthing issue

This one's a real puzzle, hoping that someone might have a bright idea - here we go: I have a slow voltage leak to earth. I've done the following to try an isolate it, with zero results: Voltmeter between earth strap and negative terminal, removed all fuses and fuseable links in turn - still...

    Freelander TD4 starter solenoid repair

Worked it out - alternator tested a1, as did battery. Hippo wouldn't start again yesterday, checked voltage, was low, charged battery, and she starts. Ergo - battery was discharging somewhere, but slowly. Remembered that the cig socket was corroded, removed it, tested and voilà -continuity...

    Freelander TD4 starter solenoid repair

Ok, back to square one - went to start this morning and back to 'click click click' (although a very resonant click!) Tow started and it's been fine since. Test 1&3 (11.85v/0.00v) check out, but I'm reading 0.01v on the thin lead - even when it starts. Most peculiar. Any...

    Freelander TD4 starter solenoid repair

Fairly straightforward job, trickiest bit was slackening the rear retainer bolt on the starter motor. Started first time - good stuff all round. Thanks again.

    Freelander TD4 starter solenoid repair

Great info, doing this job tomorrow morning with the RepairkitsUK kit. Two days from ordering to delivery on a remote Orkney Island. Most impressed.

Freelander 1 Clutch low bite point again

Just a quick sit rep - the Hippo never missed a beat on the drive back up the A96 and A9 to Thurso from Aberdeen, so between this mod and a good old fashioned fluid change and bleed, problem solved. Many thanks to all on this and the bleed thread, great advice. Cheers gents!

Freelander 1 Clutch low bite point again

Did the mod as described (very easy, 5 min job) but the bite point is still low. I've just noticed a very small weep of oil (not a drip) between the n/s of the engine block and the bell housing, so it looks like she'll up up on the lift when I get home to Orkney. Gear changes have been a bit a...

Freelander 1 Clutch low bite point again

Very interesting, makes a lot of sense - will have a look and possibly give this a go later. How is it performing now (after a couple of months)? Cheers

    TD4 Clutch Bleed Tutorial

Very useful info, many thanks. First major drive (from Thurso to Aberdeen) and noticed the lower gear changes becoming increasingly 'agricultural' as the journey progressed. I've bled the clutch and ended up with a bottle full of cloudy muck with black particulates in suspension. It took more...
