I'm completely baffled, There was alot of material I had to clean off the head and the block from the old head that seemed like there may have been some sealer used before. Bolts are correct and matched the old ones in length. Thank you

I did not use gasket seal, is this recommended and if yes what kind? bolts are all new and after removing them again there was nothing in the bolt holes that might have stopped the bolts short.
