Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

Forgot to say, revving doesn't change voltage variation, just idling the voltage read goes up and down like yo yo. When you Rev it, it dies the same thing with no perceptible difference in volt reading..

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

No headlight flaring, which is a bit odd as I'd expect that with fluctuating voltage...

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

Happy new year! Thanks for advice re metering etc. I now believe there are a couple of faults - the wiring for rear brake lights is definently goosed. I've replaced this in a hashy fashion for the moment ( from front to rear rhs then through to Lhs and back up through tub - I'm hoping that I...

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

Thanks for your efforts on this - it's appreciated! There doesn't appear to be an egr valve fitted. Just the blanking plate on the manifold. As this was an early 300 it's possible it didn't have the egr system fitted. When I removed the middle seat there was no wiring to be found. I'll try...

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

No egr under middle seat - it's blanked off on manifold so likely butchered by previous owner. No wiring etc either. I've had the Landy 8 years now, even after all this time it's a mystery! :)

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

In a basil fawlty moment of madness/ temper loss this morning I gave the towing electrics a talking to then cut them off. I've isolated the ends so I know it can't be that. I've also checked the splice for the towing too, and it's not that either. Taking the fuse out doesn't help - the only...

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

That's the confusing thing, it's fuse 17 on the cover panel ( which shows brake and engine management icons and reversing light) but in the Haynes vague I've got, (86-94) none of the colours match up, yet the diagram says its for 300tdi... My gauges etc are on fuse 2 - the only thing that pops...

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

Hmm - it's an early model 94 - one of the first 300tdi's - the only thing the brake lights share is the engine management - on early tdi's I don't think there was any!

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

Hi - checked all the connectors and earths - checked alternator, lights don't increase / decrease with revving..

Brake lights fusing - not while parked, only when running

Hi folks, It's been a while! My 300tdi is blowing brake light fuses. With the engine running and stationary, it takes 40 seconds of constant brake use to blow a 5amp fuse. With the 15amp in it takes around 2 mins constant use. If the engine isn't running ( so just have ignition on) I can't...

    Replacing alpine windows?

Hi, My alpine windows seals have perished away again ( or perhaps I didn't fit them right in the first place...). Anyway was wondering if there was a replacement panel to cover up the gap permanently ( pot rivet them on with some sealant etc.) once window removed. Cheers Ken

300tdi - why won't it go into dif lock?

Festive Greetings! I can get the landy into low ratio without any problems, but when I push it over to diff lock in either low or high range, it doesn't seem to want to go, It certainly won't engage and just refuses to stay on the LHS (the difflock dash light doesn't come on either). Any quick...

Bright yellow easy-on paint for respray

Excellent - thanks for the info and pics - very much liking the Lime Green machine - certainly make it much harder to knock! I've got a knackered side door in the garden, will have a go at that with the coach paint and the plasticote, see how I get on. Will put up pics when done. cheers Ken

Bright yellow easy-on paint for respray

Hi, Wondering if anybody knows of an easy-on paint to use for re-spraying landy in the back garden - looking for bright yellow. Did a fair bit of car spraying as a yoof (20 + years ago) but not sure if things are still the same. :) Cheers K

Towing Freelander - perhaps a daft question

Hi folks, I'm going to pick up a dead hippo in Argyll (v6 with blown head gaskets), and plan to tow it back home (180 miles) using a towbar rig onto the free lander chassis. Will I be ok to stick the car in neutral and head home, and not destroy the gearbox etc. on the way back? Cheers Ken

Is it worth a punt?! - 2000 V6 with Cyclinder head gasket fail

Ok! More interested now! Can anyone tell me how complex the head is to do, I can do one in the 300 tdi defender, but you mostly use hammers to do that!
