Selector issues on R380 gearbox - quick question

Ordered all parts listed by user Wammers through Island 4x4 (this is where you tell me there is a forum discount!). Also added to that list a new yoke bushing (part number Selector Yoke Bush FRC5859 for reference). £63.02 all in, hopefully the dude I bought the truck off will honour his 1 month...

    Can the Defender TD5 cope.....

One 'easy' way to clear a lot of smoke issues in any soot chucker is get a bottle of redex/your preferred brand and a new fuel filter, completely ignore the instructions on the bottle and just brim the fuel filter with the cleaner before putting it back on. Start her up and gently bring her up...

Selector issues on R380 gearbox - quick question

Was looking earlier and couldn't quite figure how the pin was held in place, it may perhaps kinda defeats the point if I have to order a 2 quid pin then spend a tenner on liquid metal when a whole jobbie is 20 quid. To add a little more, the housing is pretty mullered too at the 1st and 2nd end...

I did notice the error but knew what you meant! Thanks for correcting that anyway.

Arse, not quite a ten quid problem as I first hoped. Will have a tinker and try get it something like and then order some new bits. Cheers, Sam

Selector issues on R380 gearbox - quick question

Right, my torsion spring has slowly filed itself down against the 'forks' of the pivot pin (see image below). Is it possible to simply replace the forks as it seems nuts to spend £50 on a whole new shifter when it is only the pins that are worn? The missus couldn't get reverse this morning, I...

Getting 2020kg of 110 county iron must take a but of shoving! I would usually service as soon as I get a new car but she had a major service less than two months ago from main dealer.

You can tell my 110 has more to give just from a week of general driving, you can almost feel it gasping for air when pushed. I believe they are 122 and a map should take them to 150. Obviously with a derv you are looking at torque and not chasing ponies though!

Just buy a cheap jobbie off eBay mate and put a 'grease nipple' type connection on some solid pipework (after the cooler) and run it into the cab, you can only check boost under load - easiest way on a gradient (if egg sucking, sorry!). Find a quiet hill and leave the bonnet on the latch and...

Yep, my sisters hubby had two 300s workhorse type compressors running when him and his partner were working in both bays at his bodyshop. I used to spray when blacksmithing/ironworking and it isn't as easy as it looks - even just spraying black railings black!

300 litre comps are perfect for bodyshops, but something at 50-100l will be fine for a bit of diy.

"Strange upgrades"... an intercooler and oil catch tank? I wan't her to have a little more poke, that's not so unusual is it? Is there a thread on here for what to be checking on a 2000 TD5 110 to ensure I'm doing everything to make her run as reliably as possible? A kind of 'to do' list before...

Buy the biggest you can afford, you don't want to be 'running out' of air and waiting for it to pick up pressure halfway through with uneven spray patterns. It will be a balance of something that is 50l+ and pushing out the amount of air-pressure you need consistently (read stat sheet for gun...

Looking at renault espace 3.0cdi coolers, they may be too big to fit but quite narrow (low lag) but will have a much larger cooling surface area. They go to 210bhp with a map and are strapped to a v6 derv so could be plenty for a straight 5 tdi block. Super dooper cheap too! Will investigate in...

That looks something like, perhaps a little to narrow and a little to high. Good call on going back to trawling through van coolers though.

No, not really other than a little more lag. You may notice it does pull a bit better when you push it so long at you fine tune your blow off valve/actuator or whatever your want to call it. The remap is where you can really start to make the most of those colder intake temps and higher volumes...

Sorry mean breather, Does the breather connect back into the intake or they just breathe to atmosphere? Not had chance to look properly under the lid yet! Only had her a week. Sam
