Disco 2 TD5 - Fan cutting in at 2000rpm from cold.

So, it took me until yesterday to get under the bonnet and have a good look around. Turns out the hose between the turbo and the inter-cooler has two 2" long tears in it. So, I think I've found the source of the problem! Thanks for the advice chaps. I think I'll be replacing all the hoses in...

Thanks @jamesmartin. That does sound plausible - hadn't thought of that.

Disco 2 TD5 - Fan cutting in at 2000rpm from cold.

Oh yikes! I was hoping it was just a stuck switch for the fan...I'll be taking the covers off and have a good look at the hoses! It did cross my mind, but as performance didn't seem to be suffering, I mentally ruled that out. Thanks @brian47.

Disco 2 TD5 - Fan cutting in at 2000rpm from cold.

Hello fellow LZders. A new development in my Disco 2 TD5 journey. About a month ago, a routine drive had an interesting turn. A fan (at least that's what I think it is) cut in whilst I was tooling about. I thought it was just the viscous fan cutting in as things got a bit warm. It had never...

    Disco 2 Today, I've been mostly fitting a roof-rack

Picked up a bargain Front Runner slimline 1/2 rack last week, which I assembled and fitted today, as well as replacing the captive nut for the acoustic engine cover. This thing is really solid and quite light - one person could actually fit it, though I borrowed my son to help get rack on...

    Another disco written off

I went TPF&T as the other options were just silly money and the insurers at the bottom feeding end will always look for the lowest possible payout. I feel for you. You could try getting an accident claim lawyer to go after the uninsured loss on the other driver?

Disco 2 EGR valve removed, wish me luck! Oh, and some pointers please :)

Indeed it was :D. Will stop the horrid rattle of the acoustic cover.

Disco 2 EGR valve removed, wish me luck! Oh, and some pointers please :)

Well, it turns out this is actually just a simple captive nut, not the whole bracket. Google turned up the part on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151847597868 for anyone who is missing the nut, but has the bolt (like me).

    Front Runner Slimline 1/2 Rack

Just picked up a brand new Front Runner Slimline 1/2 rack for £380 off list price. Feel very smug . There are some amazing deals to be had out there, if you are prepared to spend a bit of time looking.

Disco 2 EGR valve removed, wish me luck! Oh, and some pointers please :)

It was the EGR blanking plate on the exhaust manifold. Didn't have a gasket. Got some fire gum and that made a nice seal. Squeal went away.

Disco 2 EGR valve removed, wish me luck! Oh, and some pointers please :)

Thanks AceB. There wasn't a bung in the kit, but the EGR replacement had a steel "stalk" on it, which I guessed was to connect the vacuum pipe to. It effectively blocked the pipe. Well spotted on the oil seal...that was a "discovery" (hehe) a couple of weeks ago. New seal is already on, so...

Well, Fire Gum certainly sorted out the squeal. Seems to drive just fine Sans EGR.

Disco 2 EGR valve removed, wish me luck! Oh, and some pointers please :)

I think I may have answered my own question from searching the archives. From what I've read, the lack of a gasket on the EGR blanking plate on the exhaust manifold could be to blame. As I now have Holt's Fire Gum, I will refit the plate with Fire Gum to seal it. Hopefully, that will solve the...

Disco 2 EGR valve removed, wish me luck! Oh, and some pointers please :)

Well, it didn't burst into flames and it didn't go bang. So far, so good. I did give it a bit'o'right foot, tentatively, as well. What I now have though is a squeal that rises and falls with the RPM that wasn't there before I removed the EGR system. It sounds like either a noisy fan belt or...

Disco 2 EGR valve removed, wish me luck! Oh, and some pointers please :)

So, having been away for a week, I decided today was the day to tackle the EGR valve. What and Alan B'Stard! Getting the fan cowl off, easy. Undoing the retaining bolts for the engine cover on the nearside, easy. The offside was fookin messy. The captive bolt has come lose at some point, so...

Disco 2 Replacing the rear window wiper motor - job done!

Ha! That's tomorrow's mission, time and weather permitting. I've got a busy morning making and drinking tea, followed by a bit of yoga and a coffee with the lads. Then it's lunch time, a bit of dusting, some afternoon tea and a read of the Daily Fail, then it'll be time to pick the nippers up...

Disco 2 Replacing the rear window wiper motor - job done!

First, thanks to the great support from the forum on sorting out the rear window wiper motor, it's incredibly valuable advice and insight that makes these jobs a lot less daunting. I pulled apart the rear door to work out if the motor was seized or if it was a power problem and discovered that...
