Freelander 1 Pre and post facelift module compatibility

The diagnostic protocols changed on the ABS about that time I think, from Teves mk20 to Teves mk25, though I think that happened earlier than the Facelift, maybe 2002 or 2003. I doubt (though not 100% sure) that the canbus protocol from the engine ECU to ABS changed because I don't think that...

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

I think that the fundamental problem with them is that they cause the drain holes to get blocked up with dirt, but then that can happen with any car I suppose. You need to make sure that the drain holes can drain water whether you have the protectors on or not.

    Solid orange engine light

what's an xei? I think that's a 1.8 K series? The early K series have a MEMS1.9 ECU and aren't EOBD compliant, but I don't know whether that applied to an xei.

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

status update:- before now this is just bare metal as welded and cleaned up. It'll look a lot better with the skim of filler and some stone chip on it. Now I have to do the other side. It seems to me that long term those protection strips that run underneath the sill seams are...

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

yes I need that bracket. I am waiting for the weather to improve so that I can weld up the sills and take it for an MOT. Once that's done the gearbox is coming out.

Freelander 1 welding question - Seat belt anchorages

I have just started working on welding up the sills on our new Freelander 1. It's triple layer which is a bit of a pain, because if the layer in the middle rusts out you have to cut off the outer sill, even if it's solid, to get to the middle layer. I haven't been able to find new outer sill...

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 diagnostics - What actually works?

I have sent you a PM. I can't discuss prices and delivery here.

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

No, one way is easy, the other way is much harder. The other option (I suppose) would be to bolt an auto torque converter to a manual flywheel.

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

The problem with the Freelander ECU is that it can't work with the hall effect crank sensor that the auto gearbox has.

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

The auto and manual Rover 75 ECUs do appear to have similar firmware. Probably either word work. The maps are different though because the auto has stronger anti stall for example.

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

I'm not that bothered about the driveshafts, but I would like to get the relationship between IRD and engine the same as it is on the Freelander block

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

There's a block for sale in Reading which I'm intending to grab tomorrow

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

can anyone tell me whether a Freelander K series block and sump is the same, or different to other MG Rovers? I'm looking for a block to start mocking up an adapter plate for the transmission, flywheel etc. MG Rover blocks are cheap enough that it could be worth buying one just to save time...

Replacing chip in Freelander 1 key

The immo can be hacked to accept a chip that didn't come from Landrover, but, to do this the immo has to be removed from the vehicle which means removing the dash top. It's much easier just to buy a new key from Landrover which they can supply with a chip already coded to the vehicle.

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 diagnostics - What actually works?

I am about 99% sure that pscan is going to talk to almost every ECU on a NA spec Freelander 1 just the same as a European one, so you'll get ABS, SRS, CCU, Jatco transmission, and, that it will talk to the Siemens MS43 but only in OBD2 mode. I think that I will have to get an MS43 ECU sent over...

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

can you help me to emulate an auto gearbox on the bench? is that what you have done? it would be really useful

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

see this post https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/auto-1-8.385468/post-5520766 older Jatco ECUs are more "fussy" about sensors so maybe that's why you are getting different behaviour?
  18. P

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

Pin 43 on the Jatco ECU goes to the brake pedal switch and I haven't hooked that up which explains why that didn't respond in live data.

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

actually, I could pretty easily hook up the Freelander V6 engine ECU, Jatco, ABS and a cluster on the bench and look at the CANbus messages to see if they look any different to the 1.8K series. I just can't get it on a running engine.
  20. P

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

so you think that a Freelander ECU sends different data (or data in a different format) to the Jatco ECU compared to a Rover 75 ECU? If that's so then a Freelander Jatco ECU isn't actually compatible with a Rover 75 engine ECU. I hadn't even considered that. The good news is that I can probably...
