    Yes the cog/gear and exclamation mark, the red light under the hand brake warning light. Are you saying it (the trans temp light) is supposed to be lit every time the hand brake is pulled? I hadn't noticed that before.......

    Final resolution and update for reference. The Gates 6208MC went straight on and was easily adjusted without any issues. This tells me that the ERR2073 (which is 675mm) is not the same as the ETC7899 (which is 700mm) even though several sources suggest this is the case. The 6208MC I fitted is...

    So the ERR2073 is 675mm but the ETC7899 is 700mm. Interesting use of the word “superseded” and a very good explanation for the tight fit, assuming mine was supposed to be the larger belt. I will see how the 700mm belt goes on and rest a little easier if it does.

    Reply #12 says the alternator pulley is 60mm but mine is circa 70mm. Can anyone else measure the pulley on a 1991 V8? This may be the problem.

    The garage have confirmed they had the same issue when fitting the belt and had to wind the belt on by turning the crank, they have offered to fit the belt if I drop it round. I still don't know why but my next move it to measure the pullies. Not happy just forcing another belt into position.

    Thanks. Yes, I tried removing the bolt that secures the alternator to the adjusting arm but it still won’t go. Very odd. I have now ordered a 700mm belt and will see how this goes but I’m wondering what has caused this. Or maybe the new belt I have is out of spec.....
