Don't demobilize the EGR as they don't like it, and can cause this 2000 rpm misfire thing with smoke, make sure your engine temperature reaches normal after a short drive and check none of the vacuum pipes have perished, also check the EGR is not gummed up. Nice car, same colour as mine

You need to get it plugged into a diagnostic box before you start spending any more money, it could be one of many sensors.

That seems tight for one year, unless you have been doing quite a bit of serious off roading or mismatching tyres.

So your £25 MAF cured the fault

Is there a definite solution for this fault, most say it's the MAF, incidental it only happens when the engine is hot and no other symptoms or lack of power.

Yes they are about 7mm thick, they run from the turbo to a plenum chamber (bulb) and there is also a pipe that runs to the EGR control valve, a split pipe will cause a loss of vacuum resulting in loss of boost and the egr valve not working.

Quite right about the injectors but if a boost pressure is wrong say at a given engine and vehicle speed then the ECU could throw a wobbler and give out some random settings

This vacuum hose split thing seems to be the cause of this 2000 rpm flutter, looked at a FL the weekend and it's pipe was split by the EGR valve resulting in a loss of vacuum which would stop your turbo boosting properly

I would check all the vacuum hoses too

A friend of a friend asked me to have a look at his FL with the same problem, easy I said, is reaching normal engine temp, yes came the answer so agreed to take a look, turned out that the vacuum pipe to the EGR h ad perished and the EGR was stuck solid so replaced all pipes, cleaned the EGR...
