Leaky, yes. I drove through a monsoon the other day and had water flowing down the inside of the windscreen. I think some bath sealer is needed outside between windscreen surround and roof where the current seal has obviously perished

Well the new alternator is doing its job properly. My old bus now also has new rear brake cylinders and pads, with some new pipe. Also the fuel gauge now works, the old float was a sink, full of petrol. Next tasks are to get the heater fan working and stop the leaks in the cooling system. Then...

Getting the nut off the old alternator was a real pig as the spring washer had been completely flattened. I had to get help from a pal with an air driven wrench and a big vice to grip it in, plus big levers to stop the armature rotating. Plus it was a 21 metric nut when my kit is imperial, and...

Well that's the replacement alternator fitted, what a palaver to get the pulley and fan off the old one! Now charging at about 13.5 volts which seems better. The old one's bearings were fine so overheating must have been electrical. I just hope there isn't still a battery drain to earth I don't...

Many thanks for all your comments, very helpful. I now have a new service exchange unit which I'll fit on Wednesday touch wood. Hopefully all the connections will fit without needing change and that I can do the job from above without too much grovelling on the gravel which it's parked on

I've had a few gremlins behind the dash in my 1974 2.25 petrol with recent example being the ignition warning light being on even with the key removed, and before I knew that was the case the battery unsurprisingly flattened over a weekend. Even with the light on, the battery was being charged...

Went to start the vehicle this morning, newish battery completely flat with 2V across terminals. So something shorted behind the dash probably, but not high current as no burnt smell. Anyone else had this please?

Thanks, very timely thread as my S3 temp and fuel gauges have been erratic for a while and having tapped the glass today now don't work so voltage unit appears either open circuit defective or disconnected. Wipers and washer both work so not the fuse

At the time of the S3, the Navy did have some LRs with proper seats etc for use at its various outward bound training places, many in Wales. See if you can find evidence of dark blue paint. IIRC there were others for use on air stations that were red like your roof, for aircrew type duties. Also...
