    Series 3 MOT Exempt ?

My Series 3 SWB got its voluntary MOT yesterday, no advisories. Needed a new brake light switch though

    Series 3 MOT Exempt ?

Have now found it, 75mm puddle in 5 minutes, either a single source or multiple which aggregate MOT Inspection Manual update of 20 May 2018, para 8.4.1 about environmental nuisance. Available to browse on gov.uk website Doesn't apply to coolant, screen wash or adblue although the last needn't...

    Series 3 MOT Exempt ?

My 1974 S3 is going for voluntary MOT next week having had last years advisories fixed, especially new drivers footwell. My other 56 year old classic sailed through on Wednesday with an advisory about a diff oil leak which was news to me. Garage floor evidence suggests about a drip per month...

Series 3 Petrol vs Diesel...what's the verdict?

Having bought our 2.25 petrol SWB and had a 10000 mile service done, our first trip was Tavistock to the Midlands via back roads, around 200 miles. Overdrive made a real difference, something like a 28% reduction in revs meaning 50mph cruising is not uncomfortably noisy. 6 hours driving time...

Series 3 Advice when looking to buy a series 3

Leaky, yes. I drove through a monsoon the other day and had water flowing down the inside of the windscreen. I think some bath sealer is needed outside between windscreen surround and roof where the current seal has obviously perished

Series 3 Advice when looking to buy a series 3

Doesn't tax exemption now apply at the 40 year point? I bought my S3 SWB station wagon with overdrive in Aug 2015 from my wife's cousin so a bit mate's rate. It had new Richards chassis in 2003 and a complete Turner 2.25 petrol engine in 1999. Since getting it I've had to call RAC once...

Series 1 Early car needing much TLC

I think there may be a misunderstanding, this vehicle is not mine, it's parked on a street in Colonia in Uruguay and clearly has been for many years. Owned by a cycle hire shop. It does have an engine visible through the missing wing but what sort goodness knows I came across a derelict series...

Series 1 Early car needing much TLC

Last pic. You could make them an offer I suppose, Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. Lots of cars have gone there for their final journey

Series 1 Early car needing much TLC

I think it's a Series 1, obviously not moved a while. It has no front right spring so the axle is located by chains welded to hub and chassis Sorry having real difficulty attaching images from android, will try again another time

Series 3 Alternator on the way out?

Well the new alternator is doing its job properly. My old bus now also has new rear brake cylinders and pads, with some new pipe. Also the fuel gauge now works, the old float was a sink, full of petrol. Next tasks are to get the heater fan working and stop the leaks in the cooling system. Then...

Series 3 Alternator on the way out?

Getting the nut off the old alternator was a real pig as the spring washer had been completely flattened. I had to get help from a pal with an air driven wrench and a big vice to grip it in, plus big levers to stop the armature rotating. Plus it was a 21 metric nut when my kit is imperial, and...

Series 3 Alternator on the way out?

Well that's the replacement alternator fitted, what a palaver to get the pulley and fan off the old one! Now charging at about 13.5 volts which seems better. The old one's bearings were fine so overheating must have been electrical. I just hope there isn't still a battery drain to earth I don't...

Series 3 Alternator on the way out?

Many thanks for all your comments, very helpful. I now have a new service exchange unit which I'll fit on Wednesday touch wood. Hopefully all the connections will fit without needing change and that I can do the job from above without too much grovelling on the gravel which it's parked on

Series 3 Alternator on the way out?

I've had a few gremlins behind the dash in my 1974 2.25 petrol with recent example being the ignition warning light being on even with the key removed, and before I knew that was the case the battery unsurprisingly flattened over a weekend. Even with the light on, the battery was being charged...

Series 3 Wipers dead, temp gauge dead, fuel gauge dead

Went to start the vehicle this morning, newish battery completely flat with 2V across terminals. So something shorted behind the dash probably, but not high current as no burnt smell. Anyone else had this please?

Series 3 Wipers dead, temp gauge dead, fuel gauge dead

Thanks, very timely thread as my S3 temp and fuel gauges have been erratic for a while and having tapped the glass today now don't work so voltage unit appears either open circuit defective or disconnected. Wipers and washer both work so not the fuse

Series 3 Help with history on my S3 109 station wagon

At the time of the S3, the Navy did have some LRs with proper seats etc for use at its various outward bound training places, many in Wales. See if you can find evidence of dark blue paint. IIRC there were others for use on air stations that were red like your roof, for aircrew type duties. Also...
