Freelander 1 Instrument Cluster Lights Won’t Switch Off

Hi Nodge. Water was coming in through the sunroof and was running down the windscreen and down the pillars etc. At first I tried a clear caulk around the sunroof but that didn’t really work so I ended up using gaffer tape. I guess water went into the dash and ran down into the fuse box under...

Freelander 1 Instrument Cluster Lights Won’t Switch Off

Hi All. It’s been a while. Hope you’re all well. I’ve performed many repairs and patches to my F1 V6 but I have an issue that I’m scratching my head with... I had a bad water ingress and the fuse board had to be replaced because there was bad water corrosion. Anyway, since having it back, the...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Thank you so much Nodge. You've been fantastic and I really appreciate all your helpful comments. If you ever come to Cardiff let me know and I'll buy you a pint! It probably was some sort of O ring failure. I wish I didn't have to rebuild it all to then put water in to find out if it sealed or...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Hi Everyone, Well.. The thermostat replacement job failed! I managed to remove the hoses from the old thermostat housing with loads of twisting and pulling and some WD-40. Took a good 20 minutes each but was happy when they were finally off because that was the only thing that...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Okay I'll quickly try again tomorrow evening before it gets dark. Because the two hoses are so close together it's hard to get a good grip on them as if to do a 'Chinese Burn' but I'll keep going. Thanks again. :)

Haha. Okay okay I'll put some rags over them!

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

I returned home about half an hour before sunset so I put my nose back in the engine bay. I managed to remove the base of the old thermostat housing along with the straight pipe and elbow pipe. They came out easily after a little wiggling back and forth. I did like you said Nodge and removed...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Thanks Nodge. Unfortunately I've run out of time for today so I'll have to have another go next Sunday. :( I had all my tools and everything out in front of me. Even had my Tablet resting on the top vent next to the wipers playing the 'how-to' youtube video so I could stop-and-start it as I...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Hi Everyone, Just thought I'd give you an update. My replacement engine arrived on Wednesday and is sitting on a pallet in my garage for when the time comes. I made a start on attempting to change the thermostat today (on my existing engine that is!). All went fine with the disassembly except...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Hehe! Thanks again for your advice and support everyone. I read before that picking parts of the thermostat out was expected. Fun. Not! That's my biggest worry about this job.. Breaking or breakage of parts as I do it. And after getting all the way down to the block the last thing I want to do...

This is the O-ring I bought. Is this the one you mean?

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to label and photograph every step, making notes of the steps on the way so I can just follow it in reverse to refit everything. Still can't believe how many connections there are with this job. I bought an O-ring with the thermostat along with the elbow...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Yeah I know! Haha. I have everything else. That grabber is only £8 from eBay and knowing me, without it I'll get really frustrated and drop the bolt like, 100 times before I get it in! I'm looking forward to doing this job but also kinda dreading it too! Hope I don't mess it up! Haha.

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

I really hope it doesn't turn out to be a head gasket problem Alibro. Fingers crossed you just got a bargain there. The video I posted doesn't really do it justice. The white balance of the camera isn't true plus it was a really bright morning yesterday. It's been smoking for a while. It...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Seems an awful lot to me! So do you think I should go ahead with the thermostat change and see how long that lasts me? I'm worried about the knocking it's making too. Seems to be blowing the exhausts fumes out in puffs rather than a smooth output.

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Here we go! It's actually worse than what the video shows because of the cameras white balance.

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Would be interesting to know what is actually wrong with my current engine though. Just for curiosity's sake.

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

I really hope so too. Everything else about the car is perfect for what I need. I was driving passed some newer compact 4 x 4's today such as the Kia Sportage and the Nissan Qashqai and thought my Freelander looks much nicer. I have a garage to do the transplant in. Can rent an engine hoist...
