    Fitting an Engine preheater

I've just bought this engine preheater. and the instructions (I've translated from German) suggest these possible installation positions: 1. Integration into the heating circuit: The heater is mounted in the return of the internal radiator (standard assembly) 2. Integration via the...

    Remove canvas hooks

What's the best way to remove the canvas hooks that are on the side rails. A friend needs to fit lockable tree sliders so the canvas hooks need to be removed first. I don't have any pictures but they seem to have 3 spot welds, do you drill these out?

    Fitting Isolator Switch

As part of security measures I'm taking for my Landy, I'm fitting an isolator switch. This has become more complicated and difficult than I expected. There is a large and medium wire which goes to the live on the battery. I was told that I need to fit the switch to the live feed, cutting the...

Snow chains at the flick of a switch

Has anyone seen these snow chains before? Not sure how much they cost though. Don't think we have enough snow in the UK, especially in the South to justify fitting them. Would you fit them to the front wheels?

A good location north east of Southampton to meet

I want to meet a friend and family somewhere North east of Southampton as this would be between our locations. A forest car park where we can meet up, have a picnic and take the dogs for a walk. A bonus would be able to take the Land Rover on a simple forest drive also. Does anyone have any...

    Wiring rear work light

I've fitted a rear work light partly so I can see when reversing and it will be useful also. No idea on how to wire it in though. I have figured out the routing of the cable, inside then down following the rear lights route through or along the chassis. A cable will need to go into the cab up...

    Botching my Snorkel

When I got my Defender 90 I discovered that the snorkel wasn't fitted, the pipe from the air filter to the wing intake was missing also.... When I tried to purchase the pipe I was told it was no longer available, I decided to try botching the connection... I'm really pleased with the result...

Axle leaking oil? Check breather silly...

My rear axle has been leaking oil since I got it a few months ago, had other more pressing matters to attend to on her first though. I did replace the plastic cap on the end, the other one had marks on it. I checked the breather house, not blocked. Today I replaced the half shaft gasket, but...

Battery & Brake warning light comes on.

I've had more pressing problems to rectify since getting my Defender 90 a few months ago, but here is a more minor irritating problem. Usually occurs when going downhill, the battery & brake warning lights come on. I guess it's a bad earth or cable shorting to the chassis somewhere, I've checked...

    Temperature a bit high?

Just got my Defender 90 200dti back from having a recon engine fitted, the temperature looks high to me, but it might have been low before, they had to fit a new coolant temperature switch. As I haven't driven many defenders I don't know what is normal, what do you think?

    Damaged turbo

I'm having a recon engine fitted to my Defender 90 200dti and the garage doing it has advised me that the blades in the turbo are damaged, see image. It seemed to work OK before, but does anyone know if the turbo can be repaired or does it have to be replaced? I'm sure this must be effecting...

    Bought a Defender 90 200dti a few weeks ago

So I'm new to Land rover ownership and have been thrown in the deep end. The Defender I bought has many new parts, the chassis looks sound and I like how she looks sprayed black. I noticed fluid leaking down the clutch pedal, master cylinder seals have gone, so I should finally be replacing...

    Second hand or recon engine?

My engine has a crack in the outer wall of the block and although I have managed a temporary seal, the engine will need replacing. It is Defender 90 200 DTI, so I could source a Disco engine, swap my bits over, have the head gasket changed, new cam belt and of course the clutch and fitted for...

200 DTI recon - How much and where from

I have to get my engine replaced and have been offered a second hand with similar mileage by the dealer. I'm considering taking money off him instead and put some money towards a region engine. I'm having difficulty finding how much a recon engine is and where to get one. Does anyone know how...

    Using a lot of coolant

I have had my Land Rover Defender about 4 weeks and have started to realise it is using a lot of coolant. I have done about 550 miles and have had to put 2 kettles worth of water in it so far. It's obvious by the colour of the coolant that it is mainly water, so I haven't bothered topping it up...
