    3.9 intermittent engine failure

My first thought was coil or distributor, and as you say the ignition amplifier is probably a good place to investigate first. Far as I can see all the ingnition parts are orriginal aside from the leads I just fitted (bearmach) Thanks

    3.9 intermittent engine failure

Hello all I wonder if any experts out there have any idea / suggestions about a problem I'm having please? I have a issue with 3.9 where by intermittently the engine will cut in and out rapidly and violently. Its always happens within 5ish miles so a cold or just warming engine, always about...

    3.5 water pump leak

Thanks for the info, I had assumed all the bolts holes would be capped not open to the waterways so seems I was worrying about nothing, sealed up the threads on the long bolts with 572 and its all back together now and seems ok. Thanks again

    3.5 water pump leak

Ooops:rolleyes:, yes your quite right, circled green is direct to/from heater and where I put water in and circled orange is the bolt hole where water comes out. I'm not sure what it looks like on the inside of the timing cover or between cover and block but guess there is another gasket...

    3.5 water pump leak

Hello all I have a 3.5 carb engine that sprung a leak at the water pump, seemed a simple enough job despite much trouble removing the old water pump bolts I finally got it off and was about ready to fit the new pump when I discovered another potential problem. I was checking that I have clear...

24v Wolf rev counter RPM gauge

Ok I'm with you now thanks, so what your saying is that I should be able to run a signal wire off from my current alternator so that's good. Although I'm more mechanically minded than electrical so I'm a bit unsure as to exactly where to take the feed from, I'll have to do some more research...

Sorry what does EEGR stand for?

24v Wolf rev counter RPM gauge

Hello all Just wanted to ask if anyone has ever fitted a rev counter gauge to a 24v wolf or other 24v land rover? I know that normally a rpm gauge would run from the signal wire on the alternator but as far as I can see there is no connection on either of the wolf's RRC8642 or RRC8560...

Rover 3.9 Ticking noise and venting normal?

I think Ratae was correct and the HRC I was looking at is just a casting number or code, from what I have read so far the left manifold is the same for all 3.9 4.0 and 4.6 v8s

Here is what I found at the back of the manifold

    Broken head bolt...Dammit!

Hi Being proud of the surface makes it a bit easier it true but a couple of mm or even a bit more below the surface should not be a problem. You don't want to touch the alloy anyway and on a bolt of a reasonable size like this its not really a problem+ it wont take a steel weld, the trick if...

Rover 3.9 Ticking noise and venting normal?

You may well be right, I assumed that number on the manifold was the part number:rolleyes: Discovery 1 year 98

    Broken head bolt...Dammit!

Looking at the photos I would definitely second welding a washer then nut to that and I'm sure it would back out without damaging the threads, I've done lots like that. Drilling it out is very difficult to do properly with a hand held drill, you will almost inevitably be slightly off center or...

Rover 3.9 Ticking noise and venting normal?

So just to update if anyone's interested, I did a pressure test on the exhaust and found a crack in the left manifold when cold, I'm not convinced that its actually the tick I can hear and still suspect a rocker or lifter but it seems like the obvious place to start. So now I'm looking at...

Rover 3.9 Ticking noise and venting normal?

Hi, I have not revved it high but certainly from tick-over to about 2500 rpm its present and noticeable

Rover 3.9 Ticking noise and venting normal?

Hi, to me it sounds then that it is tappet / lifter related rather than piston speed, the ticking you can hear in the video was taken at tickover about 800rpm with engine at full running temperature. Its pretty constant from the moment you start, the noise does not change or lessen even when...

Rover 3.9 Ticking noise and venting normal?

I don't think its piston blow-by as you can hold a hand over the oil filler and there is no pressure, its just I was surprised to see so much oil vapor - I assume it to be oil vapor not water but its hard to tell. Don't even want to think about slipped liner:eek::(
