It's MOT time next week and the gaiters on my track rod ends are completely perished which is a fail. I'm going to have to replace them so a) any particular brands to go for? b) is it worth replacing the track rod at the same time? I have a 1992 90 so it's getting on a bit! c) is it that hard...

Having just looked into this (and bought a plastic/metal one, see my post on oil cooler leak :() I think the Bearmach all metal one is ok and if you're feeling flush, Allisport :) Or I'll sell you my old one that's lying in the garage and you can get it recored :D

I tried to fit a new seal (aftermarket), total nightmare. I ended up getting a guy who does lorry and train windows to do it and it took him over 2 hours and he said it wasn't easy!

I know its probably unlikely but how old is your battery? I know that RRs really don't like anything other than a good battery and can come up with all sorts of weird behaviour if the battery voltage is slightly low. I'm pretty sure that I've seen on another forum that this has caused a warning...

So yesterday I removed the fan/shroud for access and undid the oil pipe connections. I then removed the connectors from the rad, tightened up the backnuts then re-fitted the connectors with PTFE tape. I reconnected the oil pipes with PTFE tape, refitted the fan and shroud and went for a drive...

I'm disappointed no one has made the usual 'leave the wife at home' comment yet ;)
