It won't adjust with a door open.
It should stay at what ever height you select. Although it will self level every 4 hours or so.

For the 3 wires one is 0v, one is 5v (reference voltage) and the last one changes depending on the vehicle height via a carbon track inside the sensor. You can measure the changing resistance as you move the arm.
I suspect if it wasn't transmitting heights you would see an error on the 4x4 screen something like this but for the front wheel.

Yes that is an excellent write up it's just a shame it's for the M47 engine so not for an L322 installation.
The L322 has a separate changeover valve to isolate the engine coolant so it can just heat the cabin.
I didn't think it was down to his oil pump bolt, I was just saying that the vacuum pump needs oil or oil pressure.
We all know his is still fine cos he was able to drive for 40 miles.
