Hi all After nearly four years of owning a TD4 on an X plate (with 78k on the clock) and my fair share of 'incidents' its time to sell the old girl and move on. Rather than a post about selling the car (PM if you're interested :D) I just wanted to say thanks to those members who have posted...

Hi and welcome to the madness! abs sensors - magic..... when you have got the old blighter out then new bush on new sensor - push home all the way in - use the grease sachet supplie with sensor - the driveshaft reluctor ring will then push the sensor back to the correct air gap and the three...

    Hub Nut won't come off

No they are not LH thread. make sure you have cleared out the bit thats staked down clear of threads then i used an impact socket, breaker bar which was slid inside a 4 foot long piece of steel box section and pulled on it for leverage. It will give all of a sudden. Before you do though -...

    Air con inop

All Hail Ming! The air con light on the switch will come on regardless when pressed. The system contains a pressure switch which will not allow the system to operate if there is insufficient pressure - ie no or low gas. It may be the system has just lost its pressure as they do but also...

    Oil covering pipe. Hose leak?

but you'll have no benefit from the silicon apart from it looks pretty! i didn't bypass mine - cleaned all the gunk out and the difference is noticeable when driving. People by pass it (i think) so that it stops all the oily gunk getting chucked into the system. one day i may get round to...

    Oil covering pipe. Hose leak?

hi ! had this on my td4 and thought the worst. Its engine oil leaking from the intercooler / egr pipework. two choices. easiest is tighten all the jubilee clips up. really tight. or remove all the hoses and the egr valve - clean out the pipework with brake cleaner or similar and the egr...

Weired Problem with The Rear Window, help please :S

sorry i didn't mean to drag up all the legal stuff - some may not have realised this and it might be useful for anyone else considering an upgrade. The fault has to be to do with the rear window controller thinking the battery has been disconnected as has been stated. As a thought have you...

Weired Problem with The Rear Window, help please :S

could always wire a second battery in! still - aftermarket kits are illegal for road use so milky lenses or discovery of kit would be a mot failure and don't think the insurance company would be too happy! anyway i'm off to put a new clutch in my td4

Weired Problem with The Rear Window, help please :S

I agree - been tempted to fit a HID kit but they are not CE marked and are not legal as an aftermarket fit for public road use as far as i understand. Might be an issue with an over enthusiastic mot tester too. If they run hotter they may also damage the plastic lens... Be careful...

    traction control fault

Thanx guys. Have solved the problem today - the n/s/r abs sensor was not correctly seated, the air gap was too great and as a result it couldn't read the wheel speed correctly and sent false signals through to the controller which misinterprets the signals, thinks too big a difference between...

    traction control fault

Hello everyone! I appear to be having a bit of a mare with my 2001 TD4. Traction contol kicks in when pulling off - sometimes it applies the brake o n/s front wheel to such an extent it kills acceleration when pulling out from a junction. The TC light illuminates when this is happening and...

    ABS,TC and Decent Lights on

HI, Firsty the ABS HDC and TC are warning lights which indicate a problem in the system. The electronics are designed so that when the ABS ECU detects a fault it displays the warning light and shuts down part or all of the ABS system. You may have solved the problem partly by changing the...

    Freelander Handbrake, wont work!

Also - if you can't adjust up - check that the lug the handbrake cable goes into on the bar is free to swivel around. the lugshould rotate freely - both mine had seized up and being both i thought it was normal! Free up with loads of brake cleaner then something like wd40 or soak in a vat of...

    glow plug light

2001 X TD4 - no the glow plug light does not come on as part of pre check or if it does its that darn quick you can't see it. mines garaged overnight so is cooler than being parked outside. Glow plugs work fine in the winter!

    Smelly Air Con

Hi! Had the same problem with mine. 1st thing to check - is the drain from the air con blocked? If it is then you'll have a build up of water in the system.... Drain is located on the firewall (near) passenger side - rubber tube which drops onto the cross member. Following this - does...

    De-cat pipe

The emissions from a diesel are not tested at MOT - smoke is - as far as i am aware the cat will reduce the gases in the exhaust but if its not tested.... Reducing any back pressure on the turbo is a good thing - diesel engines don't need to have the back pressure as petrol ones do.
