    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

I know (from your earlier posts). I've read everything ever written on the subject by you, Hippo, and few others. I know about Keiser too. Maybe find him, and buy it for spare (to have on hand when this one goes). These cars have very BAD reputation over here. Most Americans barely know how...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

Sorry about so many questions. ;) Just brainstorming on the open forum. You confirmed my thinking nevertheless. And another question..........:D.......since so many people all over the world report Hippos overheating (and all other problems associated with this, to the point of complete...

How much have you spent on your Freelander?

Transportation costs money (like everything else). New car payment + insurance will run about 500-1000 USD a month (depending on what one wants to drive). My wife's Hippo is cheap in comparison. Purchased for $1800, another one purchased for $2,200 (the first one needed the working engine, as...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

I just read a TON of useful info on that forum you suggested. Thank you. Didn't join yet (I might), but now I'm certain I need a new upper intake manifold (along with VIS motors), for I believe my 1471/72 codes are coming and going because of that (there is also rattle when cold, and the general...

Error F4 with hdc light on

I purchased two cans of contact cleaner (labeled "for sensitive electronic components") in the local parts store. I used both cans on the barrels, fuse box, and every other electrical connector I could see under the hood. So far, so good. ;)

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

This makes perfect sense! But why is KV6 designed to run hot? What's the benefit? What would happen if the thermostat is taken out of the loop? AFAIK, thermostat is the ONLY mechanical device that allows (or denies) the circulation of the coolant through the lower part of the rad, and the...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

Appreciated. I'll check that out. I would like to sort this thing to the point of hopping in it, and drive it 2000 miles one way. Not sure that will ever be possible (probably was when the thing was new, and under warranty).

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

If the cap/pump/stat are ruled out, I would say the only thing left would be the variable valve motors. I also replaced those (few months back when I got 1471/1472 for the first time), and didn't see any improvements. When I replaced thermostat, I had a chance to look at ALL wiring, and I...

Error F4 with hdc light on

I had the same issue after the engine/tranny replacement. Followed Hippo's instructions, measured all the pins, all the solenoids, from the barrels down to tranny, and from the fuse box (with barrels connected, and disconnected), and I ran against the wall! I even zip tied the barrels (per...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

I'm ready to commit murder! Murder of the finicky Hippo that is. So,.....since the holiday is over (all the family is gone, thank God!), I rolled up my sleeves yesterday, and decided to dig into this thing (wife been pestering me to fix it, doesn't like to drive the Benz). So I started with the...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

Thank you. I know you are an authority on V6. I had all the symptoms of failed thermostat present, and I refused to accept that the new thermostat lasted less than 500 miles. It was cheap (most likely Chinese made), but the more expensive ones look the same (and could be also made in China, and...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

Forgot to ask,........on most cars I wrenched in my life, when the waterpump fails, there is no cabin heat (no circulation through the heater matrix)! How is the Hippo routed? Cause I do have heat in the cabin (plenty of it!).

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

This is exactly what's happening. My assesment on the side of the road. Since the stat is new, I discounted that, and suspected the pump. There are no leaks anywhere. Of course I can't see down in the "valley of death", but no smell either until the bottle goes nuts. Lower hose is stone cold...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

All good input. Unfortunatelly, spare engine is not ready yet. Thermostat is new, as is the expansion tank. Bottom rad hose is stone cold, which points to thermostat, but that thing doesn't have more than 4-5 hundred miles on it! Expansion bottle is definitely over pressurized, but there...

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

    Sorry, it's a 2002 V6 with 97K on the clock.

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

Two fans, with aircon. I'll try to troubleshoot electrical to the fans. So you think it's not waterpump?

    Hippo is overheating......AGAIN!

It was good while it lasted. After replacing thermostat, pipes, and the expansion tank, wife didn't have any issues with Hippo for few months. And over the weekend, she barely made it home. Expansion tank is getting over pressurized, fluid boiling, and steaming. Fans are not coming on. It...

    Tyre pressures????

If one has driving experience since 1969 (like me), one can pretty much tell what the tire looks like when it's properly inflated. From what I've learned specifically about Hippo,.....as long as all tires are inflated at the same pressure (same brand, same size, same wear), no damage should...

    Tyre pressures????

My wife's Hippo has 17" wheels, and it says on the inside of the doorjamb to run the pressure at 30 PSI. I did that, and the tires looked LOW. I run them at 35PSI all around, and they look and wear good.

    Major brake failure.

Hand brake travel was reduced because the left shoe was almost in full contact with the drum at all times. Piston got overextended either behind the shoe, or in front of it. It stayed in that position wedged on the side of the shoe. By working the hand brake in that condition, you might've broke...
