Just in case anyone else is interested the problem was traced to a failed relay. £7 later toasty warm behinds again!

Thanks Bushwwacker. I did check the relevant fuse and it's fine. I even tried the spare one to be sure.

Thanks for the replies. It was a standard 12 month service. I will take it back, but its a right hassle when you have to go to work and spend time faffing about. I just thought someone may have had a suggestion as to what else I could check to save me the aggro of going back. Cheers, Iain

Took my Freelander 1 (52 plate) for service last week. When it went in, both front heated seats worked fine. It's come back and now neither work! The lights on the switches don't even come on. I've checked the fuse and it's fine. I also rang the garage and got, 'we wouldn't have touched anything...
