    Exhaust gas temp question

I've towed several times with no issues, once towing a car from Cornwall back up to Yorkshire. I have a boost gauge and it doesn't boost at all at idle and reaches a max of 15 psi. Even if I run around with the aircon completely off it still runs the same temps. I have ordered a cheap £25 egt...

    Exhaust gas temp question

Oh, no, maybe that's me being thick. That's just atmospheric pressure.....d'oh. So the map sensor may very well be reading correctly and it does increase to about 190kpa when you rev it up to around 3.5-4k rpm

    Exhaust gas temp question

Think I may have just found the issue. I let manifold pressure as read by the ecu (presumably from the map sensor) is 100.5kpa.....which if I'm not mistaken is around 1bar (14.7psi) this is at idle. So am I right in assuming that it would be trying to fuel to compensate and possibly causing the...

    Exhaust gas temp question

Slightly more complex being under ecu control but yeah that's pretty much it. With air con/climate control completely off I've now got it to idle at about 250c but as soon as you turn it on and deman a little bit of load it jumps to 350c. But yeah I share your bewilderment. I have a Delphi...

    Exhaust gas temp question

Sensor probe is plumbed in here and the tip is pretty much smack in the middle of the gas flow. Connectors are soldered and heat shrunk then from there to the gauge it's just two wires in an insulated sleeve

    Exhaust gas temp question

I wound the wastegate back down to set as much as I can back to stock levels. So it's got no boost box, standard boost levels, I've cleaned off the map sensor as it was pretty gunked up. Double checked the air box and air filter. Boost gauge takes its reading from just in front of the inlet...

    Exhaust gas temp question

Boost is now wound back down to 1bar, no boost box connected up, has a new air filter in a recently de-leaved air box, fresh tank of fuel and still just the same. I can't really say whether the manifold is glowing as it's kinda hard to get under the bonnet while I'm driving but after pulling up...

    Exhaust gas temp question

Okie dokie I shall bypass that and see what difference it makes to it first thing in the morning. Going to put a fresh tank of fuel in it tonight see if anything changes. It's got another run to Cornwall due in the next few weeks and I'd rather not melt it!

    Exhaust gas temp question

Yeah I tried unplugging the maf which made no difference. Yeah it's has an alive boost box fitted to it, put on the same time as the turbo about 4 months ago (it's been parked up for the past 3 months as both the keys got nicked in a burglary). It towed a car from Cornwall back up to leeds in...

    Exhaust gas temp question

Nope, gauge number 3 probe number 3 still the same reading so must be running really really hot for some reason

    Exhaust gas temp question

Gauge says its in Celsius and it's an analogue gauge, just almost maxes right out as soon as you rev it when stationary and constantly runs off the scale under normal driving conditions. There's nothing between the probe and gauge to calibrate or anything it's just two wires in a loom that send...

    Exhaust gas temp question

Just finished off putting an egt gauge and boost gauge in my disco 2 and the egt temps seem ridiculous for an unmapped car. It's idling at around 550 degrees and the slightest prod of throttle maxes the gauge out at 980 degrees. It's a brand spanking new aem gauge and I've tried two different...

What mileage is your Disco 2 on?

Just rolled over to 208,000 on my 02 plate. Still going strong!

Why did you buy a disco!!

Bought mine because it came up cheap, had a P38 and an Isuzu Bighorn previously and fancied another 4x4. That and size makes the defender a very uncomfortable option for me haha. Rolled over to 208,000 miles yesterday and still going strong. Just needs that extra 50 odd ponies to lug it up hills...

    Parkwood Tong

Yeah it was a good day out, that Shogun drowning itself did make me chuckle a little bit. Surely it must have occurred something as a bit suspect when everyone was daring him to go in and then ran to the top of the hill with cameras at the ready. Didn't sound to have done any terminal damage...

    Disco 2 SLS Calibration

Ahhhh, much appreciated. I shall have to have a rummage through the forum when I get home this evening then.

    Disco 2 SLS Calibration

Well, that didn't do much. Quickly made some measurements and there was a half inch difference between the radius arms at the point the sensor bolts to them. Fabricated a new bracket with the mounting holes 1/2 inch further apart, bolted it on, fired her up and it made absolutely no difference...

    Disco 2 SLS Calibration

Going to have a quick measure on my lunch break and see if I can't fabricate something if I find 10 minutes this afternoon and i'll report back!

    Disco 2 SLS Calibration

No I disconnected the battery before replacing it. Oh well. The sensors are connected to the radius arms through 2" brackets now to allow for the airbag spacers, so might try a bit of measuring and fabricate a new bracket that's a bit longer and see if that works. There's about an inch to an...

    Spring spacers

I've just fit a 2" lift kit to mine albeit keeping the airbags on the back. Seemed to be plenty of slack on the front brake hoses even on lock and the rears only got tight when I raised the bags up to their full height (not an issue for you). So those you shouldn't have much of a problem with...
