    Freelander 1 Hippo Handbrake

Having just recently had my Freelander fail on handbrake efficiency I decided to go balls out and replace the drums, cables, shoes and also put new rigid pipes from drums to flexi hose section. When I stripped down the old drums the handbrake mechanism on both sides was seized badly. Could this...

    Aaargh! Track Rod End

Now sorted. Plenty of heat and molegrips. Phew.

    Aaargh! Track Rod End

Right next problem. I don't make things easy for myself. Obviously grinding the track rod end off initially is now hindering me unscrewing it from the track rod as I don't have anything I can grab hold of and lever. So far I've had the adjustable spanner and pliers on there. The pinch bolt head...

    Aaargh! Track Rod End

EUREKA! In the end I heated it up with a blowtorch for about 10 minutes then tightened on the puller and it popped off like a bullet! Thanks again for the replies.

    Aaargh! Track Rod End

Slap administered! I've not got a two leg puller, on only a three legger...that third leg might get in the way of hammer blows. I'll have a go with it tomorrow. Thanks for all the replies.

    Aaargh! Track Rod End

Tried it with the two hammers and it still won't budge unfortunately. I probably made it worse when I was grinding it I think and now it's really stuck. Too tired and fed up to continue fighting with it now so given up for the time being. I wonder if it could be pressed out?

Safe to assume no otherwise that may have worked!

    Aaargh! Track Rod End

Ok so I hit the track rod end with the hammer...hard...really hard...then with the persuader...REALLY hard on the side and it still wasn't budging. So I cut it off with an angle grinder. Now I'm left with this (see images). Tried heat but only got a blowtorch and I don't think it got hot...

    Drum Brake - Forked Adjuster

Just stripping and rebuilding the drum brakes. Took plenty of pics before disassembling but have a query regarding the forked adjuster bar. The forked end with the longer fork and shorter fork...which way around should it go? Does the long fork go on the front or on the back? Also regarding the...

    Anyone know what this is?

I had the driver side windscreen trim off to route a DAB aerial cable and saw this. It had a plastic cover over it that fell off as I took the trim off. Just wondered what it was. Looks like the wire off it has been snipped.

    Bonnet

Sorry to see that some idiot did that to your bonnet. There are a few for sale on eBay at the minute. I just searched for "green freelander bonnet" and I saw about five in the exact colour. Only looked briefly but most looked to be in good condition with raised lettering.

    Good lr garage fred

I can recommend JAS Land Rovers in Everingham, East Yorkshire JAS LR - Home Joe and Steph just repaired my injector fuel pump with the seal kit and did a great job quickly and for a good price. Seemed like thoroughly nice people too and put a few advisories on my invoice which is helpful but no...

Not even clicking now after solenoid fix

It was me being an idiot (as usual). It seems in my rush to get the starter back on I'd neglected to hook on the earthing strap! All working now :)

Not even clicking now after solenoid fix

Damn...it's not an aftermarket immobiliser. Just read the tiny writing on the fob and it's an ibutton fob which is used for car park/building access...god knows where for but it's nothing to do with why my lander won't start!!

Not even clicking now after solenoid fix

I had the typical starter click but no start problems that are common and bought the solenoid fix kit (last October!). Just got round to doing it yesterday. As expected, the hardest part was access to get the starter out but after much cursing and getting caked in crud up to the elbows I got it...

Be the envy of all your friends

With this stylish yet practical Land Rover tissue box cover. Surely a must have for all gaylander owners. *I'm not affiliated with the ebay seller in any way. It just popped up in my ebay feed and I thought it was amusing.

Side Step Bolt Query (not usual rivnut question)

It's ok I sussed it. As usual it took the missus to suggest something. I didn't realise there was a plastic end cap. Took that off and could see how it was held on (see pic).

Side Step Bolt Query (not usual rivnut question)

I bought some side steps for my facelift freelander in order to access the roofbox for an upcoming camping trip (yes I'm a bit of a short arse at 5' 8). One of the brackets for the steps was knackered with a bit broken off so I had a new one fabricated. The problem I've got is that in the old...

    Bonnet latch mechanism

I did plan on checking the bracket behind at the release handle end but it's now miraculously working! Not sure why but when I was round at my parents the other night I went to show my dad how it wasn't working and in typical show-myself-up-style it worked! Since then I've opened and closed it...
