Phoned Marsland this morning, their bare chassis weigh 160 Kg so add on the axle and wheels and it's well under 750Kg. so happy now. Thanks for your help.

Looked on gov sites and net in general. Have now decided not to risk it with the A-frame. I can borrow a trailer that is un-braked made from a caravan chassis. It states that a trailer less than 750Kg does not require brakes but not sure if that is laden or un-laden so the original question...
