    Timing belt

Snapped rocker and push rod. I guess first time timing was slightly out and lucky that all the damage it did. Timing is defiantly correct so this much be the knocking noise!

No I thought it was something like that to start with, it a very loud noise. Going to check the rockers and pushrods makes sure I haven't bent one while turning it over by hand, can't think there be enough force to, but worth checking.

Woodruff in, and tightened to 80NM + 90 degrees. I'll strip it back down and take pictures maybe someone will spot something obvious. Cheers

Yup, I removed radiator to make sure I was square on. I haven't touched the cam pulley at all.

    Timing belt

Yeh I posted about this earlier on in the thread as this was my first sticking point on this job, it the smaller of the two slots I have been told. The crank mark lines up with arrow vertically and fly wheel pin lines up so this must be correct?? I'll have to strip it back down at weekend now...

    Timing belt

Defiantly not bolts on fuel pump. It something rotating that's knocking. Sounds like a hammer hitting something it that bad. It is also reluctant to start. I guess I'm going to have to start from scratch again but I'm certain timing is spot on, fly wheel pin fits , timing pin slides in...

    I'll check.

    Timing belt

Turns over freely by hand, did it 6 times to triple check. No valves hit.

    Timing belt

Got back together, triple check timing and got so pin pulled in out out freely, started had horrible knocking noise!

    Timing belt

Okay, cheers, I'll start again later and see if I can get it all back together and running!

    Timing belt

Sorry probably a stupid question but want to be sure I am correct in thinking, with the mark on crank lined up and the timing pin in the fly wheel that has to be TDC. (even if the engine has been rotated with the belt off?)

Thanks for your help. I will try this tomorrow.

    Timing belt

Okay. I didn't get chance to finish it, after sorting out flu wheel and crank wheel timing I thought the problem were sorted, But the timing pin on the fuel pump won't slot in, you have hold pump between rotations to get it to go in making meaning pressure on it and when pull it out it slides...

There is two slots in the flywheel on early 300tdi apparently, I had the wrong one.

Td5 dash into tdi, handbreak light on dash..

I took it all apart and started again, I obviously didn't have a wire pushed in properly somewhere. Once it was back together it worked fine. so cables tied it up and taped it to keep it tidy and stop it moving around. If it an earth fault I will check, I wasn't sure what it would be. No I...

Just changing timing belt, Put timing pin the the flywheel and the injection pimp, but the crank timing mark is way out? Or am I being stupid?
