    TD5 cruising speed noise/dissapointment

We are running a 110 TD5 with a light remap and a Disco Box. It will cruise at 70mph at 2500 RPM (interestingly the same final ratio as 6th in my work Navara). At these speeds, although the revs are low the engine is noisy any higher and you can tell the increased effort. I guess wind...

    Boomslang Loom Issues

I’ll have a look over mine tomorrow and see if I can make it clearer/see where you/it might be going wrong.

    Boomslang Loom Issues

Is it going to LED or conventional headlight units ? - Have you done a continuity test from H4 to the relays ? - I can't think of what else can go wrong - When the relays are switched do you get 12v on the headlight side of them ? It's a good 'simple' mod and definitely worth pursuing.

    Boomslang Loom Issues

Mine was a pretty simple procedure: - Live back to the battery and fused inline. Earths to a couple of bolts near the headlights, make sure the earth is good (I had problems here later on) - The three pin plug from the N/S headlight connects to the Boomslang male three pin plug on the loom to...

    head lamp woes!

Ran one good earth and one live line straight to the batt. Alternatively you could go to the live terminal on the starter solenoid to keep the battery box cleaner. (Also reduces the risk of your father-in law unplugging it while trying to bump start the Landy and you having no lights .... )

    Defender Heritage Paint Code

I might have a crack at some T-cut and see if that helps. I don't think I'm far off a full exterior re-spray to be honest. Ta

    head lamp woes!

If you are fiddling around with the wiring you may as-well just install a Boomslang headlight loom : https://www.paddockspares.com/boomslang-performance-headlight-loom.html It takes all the load of the switch on the steering column and also results in much brighter lights. One of the best...

    Defender Heritage Paint Code

Hi all I have been battling with matching the paint on my 2000 Heritage 110. I have had several failed attempts so far with pots and pots of just the wrong shade to prove it. So far I have tried: - Match with a paint code from Halfords - Look online (from what I can work out its supposed...

    Disco 2 TD5 rough above 3000rpm

I think changing the DMF when doing the clutch would be a good idea in any case. But I feel it may solve your issue. I found the post, it reminded me just how much of a 'circus' mine was before the DMF change...

+2 for the above, pretty easy fix.

    Disco 2 TD5 rough above 3000rpm

I have had this exact issue with my 10p TD5 in my Defender. I was reluctant and pretty uncomfortable when taken above 3000rpm. I had the clutch and DMF changed a year or so ago and since then it has been fine. I did write a post on it a while back but the search function just returns an error...

Scotland / wild camp / camping sites?

Scotland is a fantastic place to pitch up where you like (within reason) There are some fantastic beach sites around Kenncraig. But most locations will provide somewhere pretty special. Just beware of the midges which will be at their peak around now. Be sure to follow the wild camping rules...

Discovery Box in a TD5 Defender, my experience

Still using original speedo drive, so I didn't think it would be an issue. Thanks @neilly, its around 7% out so I cant complain too much. Thanks guys!

Discovery Box in a TD5 Defender, my experience

Bit of a resurrection here. I have been watching my GPS and speedo, which don't seem to tally. My speedo seems to be over reading. I thought the speedo picked up its signal after the ratio change of the Disco box and wouldn't be affected by it. Should the Garmin GPS speed be trusted? Am i...

    Swivel Joint Clunk

Agreed, I will get it sorted next week and report back ! With CV joints, any particular brand to go for, a lot of Britpart stuff around. Is their quality as bad as made out or not? Thanks

    Swivel Joint Clunk

I haven't touched these since I have owned her so it's whatever grease was used from factory or previous overhaul. I can feel some knocking from the swivel when i rock the wheel. If i can get away with removing a shim or two and putting new seals and grease in it then that would be fantastic...

    Swivel Joint Clunk

Thanks guys. Secondment was farming related, but slightly slower pace of life than I am used to so plenty of time to explore and enjoy some wild camping. Highly recommend it ! The ball seems to be in alright condition, slight pitting in places but not too bad I don't think (see pic). But...

    Swivel Joint Clunk

Hi All! I have just returned from a a five week secondment on the inner Hebridean island of Islay. On our drive home I started to notice a single clunk when steering from near lock to lock. I think I have pinned this down to the near side Swivel Joint. The seals look shot, with a lot of...

    TD5 MPG

Careful with a D2 transfer box without a tune if fuel economy is your goal. I have found the opposite with consumption going up. It seems the vehicle has to work that much harder to achieve the same speed, even if the revs are lower. I used to be able to get 480-500miles out of my 110 tank...
