    200tdi stiff clutch problem

Alan - you're a STAR! whoever installed the master cylinder (previous owner himself I expect) hadn't set it up even close - once the clearance was adjusted to spec(1.5mm on the pushrod/ 6mm on the pedal) the locknuts were a good 5-6mm further up the pushrod from where they were. That added to...

    200tdi stiff clutch problem

Thanks Alan, I hadn't heard of hydraulics going that way (more familiar with the pedal going to the floor without resistance failure), I'll have a look and keep my fingers crossed it's hydraulic. The previous owner did mention having replaced the master cylinder I think, but the details of the...

    200tdi stiff clutch problem

Hello all, my old defender project has been sitting mostly unused over the winter, but I was giving it a good run over the rough today when the clutch started to slip. The biting point does seem (today) to be right at the top. My first thought is that it may simply be worn out, but now...

    viscous fan

viscous fans don't ever seize solid, (unless the bearing fails) so you will always be able to turn it. It shouldn't ever have no resistance when turning by hand but but it's normally 'just perceptible' resistance, never 'stiff' - i.e. you shouldn't be able to 'flick it' and set it spinning...

    propshaft spline alignment question

OK, thanks, I'll fit it as is then (good job I asked!) - though I still wonder why it's like that.

    propshaft spline alignment question

hello all, Hoping for some advice on how a propshaft should be aligned... I just purchased a new front propshaft for my project landy ('94 200tdi defender) and noticed that the new shaft doesn't have the propshaft yokes in alignment. I was taught (years ago) that the yokes on the shaft...

    Wrong front propshaft?

Rats! another unanticipated expense! If I order a new one, is it suffice to say 110 defender 200TDi? I would assume that is what the previous owner did when ordering this one. Or do I have to ID the transmission/ axles, etc to get the right one? It's a 5spd manual - by comparing the...

    Wrong front propshaft?

hello all, My project 110/defender has (according to the previous owner) had a new front propshaft fitted, but I noticed the splines are showing (about an inch beyond the rubber dust cover, with the landy sitting normally on the ground). Does this mean it's too short? or are they normally...

    Thermostat Housing Drill/Tap

well the thermostat should start to open at 82°C (180°F) and probably be fully open at 92°C (198°F) - I think. According to your new gauge it's operating at around 100°C - that does seem a little too hot. You could try a new thermostat.

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

Hi all, Though I'd let you know how I got on after all your help: Well I got the sprocket off (they were M5 threads), the backplate off, drilled out the old bolts, re-tapped the holes, cleaned the other holes and put it all back together. The new timing belt seemed a very snug fit - I had...

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

OK, I though I'd tried M5 but i'll look again. Thx

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

Another quick question: how difficult is it to remove the crankshaft sprocket? there are three holes which if threaded could be used to pull it off but I couldn't seem to find a thread to go in. don't want to damage it by just levering it off.

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

    Now that's a good idea; I'll give it a go. :)

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

That's interesting; i read somewhere that it shouldn't be used in older engines that predate the OAT as it causes gaskets to fail. mind you, it was somewhere on the internet and not necessarily a reliable source. as regards the timing; I've not yet removed the old belt and I need to remind...

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

I suspect they've snapped off flush/ below the surface of the block - Probably end up drilling them out :( . Still it'll probably be easier than one time I had to drill a head bolt out of an ally block :D cheers m

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

Thanks AM, I was wondering if there's a way to keep the timing right other than paint-marking the bolts. :) Any useful tips on extracting the stubs of the (waterpump) bolts? - I've never had much success with stud extractors :( m

water pump bolts? and wrong antifreeze?

hello, I've recently acquired an old 110 200TDi defender which I'm slowly bringin up to MOT standard (I hope). As I couldn't verify the last timing belt replacment I decided to put a new one in. In the process of removing the water pump, I managed to snap one of the short bolts, and it...
