What did you do with your Range Rover today

Spent most of the day in the guts of my BeCM. Prototyping a tool which hopefully will make them a little easier to work with. The extra grey cable snaking off to the right goes to a unit that can read and write a full backup of the BeCM settings at the push of a button.

    P38A 2.5 DHSE Electrical

I would definately listen to the advice given by multiple, knowledgable people in previous replies to this thread. Having said that, If you do want to proceed with your experiments (and If like me you really love to get upto your armpits in broken electronics) then I would take into account the...

    P38A Keyfob fun.

Have replied to Dan so hopefully we can get his fob back up to scratch. One thing above anything else to ask is never, ever use WD40 on any fob. In all cases, microwitches are not failing to work because they require lubrication, they are failing because they are physically degraded or have...

Help I drop the one and only key for my P38 in the sea

Yes I can clone and decode fobs. I'm currently finalising a self programmable flip fob that looks exactly like the original. You program it by holding down the buttons in a certain sequence then pressing each of the 9 digits of your vehicles fob code in turn. It also supports forced syncing...

    All-in-1 P38 Diagnostic tool

Thanks for the feedback guys. Added in basic HEVAC diagnostics today and GEMS immo re-synchronisation.

    All-in-1 P38 Diagnostic tool

Gems is slightly easier because you just issue a relearn to the ECU and it stored the first code it hears from the becm, no need to touch the becm at all providing it's working ok. EDC and Thor you need to read the code from the ECU first, then program it to the becm.

    All-in-1 P38 Diagnostic tool

By security sync, do you mean mimicking the door lock sync method through obd ?? Not sure how to go about that but I can give it a look. If you mean the BECM - ECU sync then I can do that for gems ECUs already.

    All-in-1 P38 Diagnostic tool

I can add in Bluetooth connectivity pretty easily, trouble is I'll need to to see if anyone wants to hack some Cordova stuff together cos I suck at Android. Hopefully I can open source most of this development and people can add stuff in as they see fit. Your right, EAS suite is free but I...

    All-in-1 P38 Diagnostic tool

I'll try to find out if the ecus can stream data at a speed that can make it look *live* AFAIK, some of the smaller ECUs such as the gearbox or abs don't have much in the way of extensive diagnostic capabilities but I'll see what can be done.

    All-in-1 P38 Diagnostic tool

Now that I have my own P38 to hack away on, I've made a bit of progress on a diagnostic tool for these horrible beasts :) The main aim was to sort EAS but it's already started to creep into the BECM too. Although there is a mountain of work to do, I was wondering what would be of most use for...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Spent quite a bit of time upside down in the passenger footwell of my P38 today, at least there was a bit of room as the passenger seat is now on the backseat after finding my T50 torx bit :) I was having an issue with OBD connector. Im not sure if its from factory but mine was coated in some...

P38A Range Rover Wanted - In pretty much any condition !

Bit of a strange request but I'm after a P38. Now I know, in itself thats not really strange. The strange part is that the age, colour, engine size and overall condition aren't really important. The only thing it needs to be is : - As near to Bingley (BD15) so if it needs trailoring It won't...

    P38A Serious damage

The P38's battery cover has to be one of the worst parts of its design. Initially I imagine the factory testing was fine and it rotated easily. Unfortunately they forgot to factor in the time it takes for the little rubber O ring that seals the cover to start becoming sticky and the amount of...

    P38A Serious damage

Yes I can repair all the available styles of fob. From what I have seen there are at least 5 different styles of PCB, using different processors (early COP8622 models, mid range Motorola and then the later ST micros. Of the many I have repaired over the years the most common faults (in no...

    P38A Serious damage

Yes they are. As the guys here have already mentioned, Original P38 fobs are factory programmed with a fixed serial number and dont need/cannot be recoded after that. They are simply synced to the vehicle either using passive syncing (using the fob in the ignition in later model P38's) or by...

P38 Key Fob Woes (I know probably been done to death but anyway)

Just to clarify this point. The fob codes are generally referred to in most literature as a set of 3 numerical digits, i.e 012-123-234. Converted to hexdecimal this would be : 0C7BEA. It is the second nibble of the first byte that defines which number key of the keyset. 0/4/8/C are Key0...

    P38 Keys

I'll be happy to give them a once over and as long as you cover the postage, there would be no cost if they are not repairable. Missing parts from P38 fobs are usually either battery terminals, timing crystals or passive immo coils, all of which can be repaired or replaced. Depending on the...

    P38A key fobs

I cut these as a Scania HU71P which is the correct profile for the P38 locks. Unfortunately the replacement blades that come with the currently available fob cases have more material close to the bow. This fouls on a thick wafer in the lock which is used to retain the blade when inserted and...
