You don't need the BECM to be unlocked to sync to the ECU.

Three weeks ago I paid £2k for a very tidy DSE Auto with less miles than that. Unmolested, that car is worth no more than £2K, but probably nearer £1500 in it's current state.

I was under the impression that the car won't start with the RF completely unplugged. Is that not the case? I haven't actually tried, to be honest.

You could also try swapping the front and rear tyres over to see if that has any effect.

If I was the owner of the other car that he has coming in, i don't think I'd be terribly happy if I knew that he was swapping components between different customers' cars. At best it's unethical, at worst he could end up doing more damage.
