    Rear brakes TD4

I've been there too with the handbrake... What I have learned is that it's critical that: The contact points are clean & lubed lightly, so that shoes move easily against them. The handbrake adjuster moves freely. This one seems to seize up every year for me. The nordic winter probably doesn't...

    Over(free)landing

I'd learn and train myself to do most of usual repairs that can go wrong and make you stop on the road. And take the spares & needed tools with me. These would be brakes related, fuel pumps, filters. Even wheel bearings, though these probably would need to find a garage but you bring the right...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Went to forest walk with our dogs. The weather is warmer than it typically is in October here in Finland. Earlier today did OWUT. In August 2021 I changed the VCU to a brand new GKN. Now 20000 km's and 3 years later it gives me 45 seconds using 5 kg weight and 1,2 meter rod. So no worries, it...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Our annual car inspection (like MOT in UK) done and passed. Seems like the handbrake gives me always hard time. Did the must have yearly rear brakes disassembly, cleaning and adjustment but still it was just about enough to pass the test. Brakes are just perfect but the handbrake is not. Think...

    License plate light

Yes, I already do have led bulbs in reverse lights. And they do help a bit when backing in dark.

The subframe is just 4 big bolts, it's not a bad job to do. How would you get the bars under the subframe?

    License plate light

My license plate light started to work erratic, so I opened the unit to do some contacts cleaning etc. Haven't changed the bulbs yet during my ownership (~4 years). What I found was that the assembly was in two pieces; the backplate with bulbs was hanging by the wiring inside the handle. Bulbs...

    Freelander 2 (LR2) Tyre choices - Falken?

I have Wildpeak AT3WA's in my FL1, in 235/55R18. Can't say anything but positive things. Very nice handling, quiet ride.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Yes, it's fiddly. This time I just loosened the bolts holding the cradle and did everything from the wheel well. What I dont understand is why the tube is so tight for the filter, does it shrink due to plastic getting older??? Last time I lubed the filter but it's stuck there.

It was time to change the diesel fuel filter in my 2004 TD4. It wasn't so bad, now when you know what to expect. 😉

    Discovery 2 Wheel Arch Rust

Looks quite good. There is some bubbling on the inner top corner which I would dig out and see how far has it gone. But probably no holes yet.

    Discovery 2 Wheel Arch Rust

Yes the red is some kind of oxide primer. It says it prevents rust to advance, when applied to metal. I have been using it as a primer to the bare steel after doing welding. On top is just multiple layers of rock chip preventive spray. Both of these products are spesific for my location in...
