    Original jack or something else?

Mine still has the original Jack, which i once had a go at using, just to see how easy it was. It took bloody ages to jack up. So i carry around a bottle Jack also. I tend to use use the ends of the axles as jacking points. Right under the trailing arm mounts on the back, and the wheel hub...

    Strange Throttle

It does sound like two separate issues then. I think with the throttle issue, I'm thinking the same as station house, more specifically the lift pump. It does sound like fuel starvation. It just seems odd that the problem only occurs at low revs, but then works fine when the revs pick up. I'm...

    Strange Throttle

Do you think the two are related? I mean, the noise only happens when its playing up throttle wise, or could they be separate problems? Does the jingle/rattle snake happen when the thrittle is working fine?

Patriot roof rack - can you open the sunroof?

Hey, anyone with a Patriot roof rack, how high does it sit off the defender roof? Can you open the sunroof?

towing trailer on motorway with "L" plates

Good stuff. Where are you quoting from though. I cant find any government website that spells it out as you have. Seems strange that the supervisor would need to have B+E for 3 years though. I can understand having B for 3 years, but having E as well doesn't necessarily mean you have 3 years...

Welders, explain them to me please...

I'd definitely say mic over arc. I've not done much arc but from what I have done all the coke residue crap really doesn't help with nice welds. There are other things to think about though before making your choice. Like whether to pay more for an AC set (in case you ever want to weld...

Best manual to help with repair and maintenance???

Oh, fer feck sake. I though there were rules about posting links to other sites. I don't know for sure cos I didn't read them, but then 300tdistu blasts straight in there with a link. :o:) The ones I was talking about are here pdf Land Rover Manuals | Landroverweb.com Also google for...

    Is this reasonable?

I think if you're stripping down an axle like they have done for you, changing the bearings is an obvious thing to do whilst you've got it apart. Fair play that you didn't ask for it as such, but I wouldn't get shirty with them just because you've missed an opportunity to learn to do it...

Best manual to help with repair and maintenance???

The proper land rover workshop manuals are available for download on one of the other landy sites. Not sure what the rules are about putting links or other site names on here, but have a quick google, it wont take more than a minute to find them.

Gearbox swarf - how much is too much?

So, having found myself with a couple of spare hours, I decided that it was time to do the long overdue engine and gearbox oil changes that I'd had been putting off for far too long. Now the gearbox oil hasn't been changed since I bought the landy. Having done many an oil change on various...

    In at the deep end

Hey, love your work, and I love these kinds of threads. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of welding do you use generally? I've been arsing around with mig for a few years now and have been promising myself a tig welder for quite a while (not that i can afford one). For some reason i...

    upgrading brakes

Sorry i meant they don't really have the locking issue now. That was with tyres that came with it. They were very old perished mud tyres of some description. The all terrains have much more grip and surface area on the road. Not so long ago I hired a ford Luton. The brakes on that were...

    upgrading brakes

Being as how my old thread has been resurrected into a new debate I figure I'll report back. Shortly after starting this thread i did upgrade to the vented slotted ebc disc combo and green stuff pads. Also goodrige hoses and replaced most of the copper brake tube and obviously the two front...

    Landrover 90

I think wiltshire is spot on about the wheels. Mine looked so much better with new rims and bigger diameter tyres. You probably could do something about the plain front. A winch bumper, headlight guards etc. Personally, I would also keep the original colour, and dents (in fact I have with...

    Few problems with defender 90

Problem 1: I'm pretty sure this is normal for most vehicles. Problem 2: Yeah, that doesn't sound right. Impossible to say without seeing it what might be wrong. Its not uncommon that people wire radios up wrong. But if that's not the problem I'd want to get to the bottom of that. You should...

    Landrover 90

Ok, but when you do this for real, be careful not to over spray the other cars in the street. :) Don't mean to be a spoil sport but i quite like the original blue.:o
