    Educate me about rear PTOs

Oh bugger, penny has just dropped, you mean I need one of each. One is the gearbox end and the other the cross member end. Sorry, I'm completely dense on the subject, hence the thread title. This isnt looking like such a cheap option now. Those parts will set me back a grand by the looks...

    Educate me about rear PTOs

That looks nothing like the first link you posted. Are these just different options for a PTO or am I missing something? :o

    Educate me about rear PTOs

Ill be needing to install a bugger load of fencing to keep in horses, so I'll either need to bang the posts in with a post knocker or dig holes for them with one of them big auger drill things. Also, in the next few months I'll have a few acres of grass that will need turning to hay bails...

    Educate me about rear PTOs

Well, I have a need quite soon to use various farming type implements that usually would be attached to a tractor. Trouble is, I don't have a tractor, and they seem like quite an expense option to buy one in workable condition and I'd need somewhere to store it. I do however have the landy...

    Educate me about rear PTOs

Brilliant. So then I just need to rig up some kind of propshaft arrangement to the back. So next question, where can I get one? Does anyone sell them, or is it just a case of keeping an eye on the forums and eBay etc?

    Educate me about rear PTOs

Thanks James. So that's where that round cover thing is right? Is it an easy install? I mean, if I get one of those and take off that cover, does it just bolt up to whatever is behind that cover?

    Educate me about rear PTOs

I have a 1994 300tdi defender 90 with the r380 gearbox etc. if I wanted a rear PTO so as to power towed farm equipment, what would I need to make a PTO at the rear of my landy? Is there some bolt on thing that would come off the gearbox side of the transfer box (I.e. so I could power the PTO...

    Bad alternator?

I think I'd more likely be checking for a drain somewhere. If it wasn't charging, you'd be having problems even on the days you use it back to back. Alternator is an expensive fix for it to turn out to be something else.

How much current are we talking about?

    Replacing exhaust back box

Thanks guys. Well pretty much changed it tonight anyway (before I saw your posts). Haven't used paste, and will have to change those rubber things as they are fecked so might take it back off soon anyway. Yup, also replaced bolts. One sheared right on the last turn of thread and the other got...

    squeaking noise under load

I had that once. One of the UJ's had fallen apart and the squeeking was where the prop and the UJ flange thingy were grinding gauges in each other. I'd suggest taking a look at them and changing all of them if need be. Also, as the price difference isn't much, go for OEM rather than cheapo...

    Replacing exhaust back box

I need to replace the back box on my Fender 90 (300TDI). I think the back box has been delivered today (am at work at the mo) but as I've never done the job before, I want to know if there's anything I might need that I haven't thought of. A mate of mine suggested some kind of exhaust paste to...

    12v socket

Fused ign live should be solid purple wire. Do you have any spare fuses? Don't like to contradict ginger beard, but 10 amp is more appropirate, as the sockets themselves are usually rated at around 16 amp. Also, coming off the battery will mean its perminent on.

    Aux battery earthing set up.

There is a designated earth point for all you dash stuff on the bulk head at the back of the engine bay. Just pop a wire from your earth collection point to it, through one of the rubber grommets in the bulkhead. Make sure though that the wire is rated at higher than all the currents of all the...

    Intermittant Starting Problem

Could be the starting relay, or the starter solenoid.

OMFG! Possibly a tad over priced?

:) I noticed that too, and was sorely tempted until I realised I could get a spade for less than five and half grand from toolstation.:o

Advice sought... Defender or Disco for towing a heavy caravan?

Not sure how much help I can be here, I've never had a disco so no idea what they're like or how reliable they are. I have an old defender 1994 300tdi. Ive recently towed a car transporter trailer with my yank pickup truck on the back, and also let a mate move his vw campervan in the same...

    Starter Motor Wont Stop!

I'd suspect the starter relay is sticking. It should be the rightmost of the yellow relays under the fuses. Replace that and see if it still does it. With smoke coming from your starter there is a good chance you've damaged it. Don't much like the sound of a bubbling battery either, it must...
