    Performance exhaust worth it?

Just remember not to get rid of the cat as it will become part of a visual inspection for the MOT from next year.

About to buy a 2004 Freelander

It needs to be if you're considering a petrol. Any more then play safe & go diesel. 3 months warranty is useless.

    boot floor wet

Mine is drilled, plastic coated (available from Frost Restoration in brush-on tin) & the whole floor was then waxoyled. Next I got an original Landrover bootmat off ebay for £35 to cover the floor with though I had to leave it for a couple of weeks till the waxoyl dried. Also before waxing, ran...

    Recommend me some tyres please!

Have a look on Camskill to see what they do in that size.

    Looking for a Freelander 1

Not everyone wants to change a head gasket as soon as they buy a car. As angeldoc says, go diesel.

    V6 auto to manual ??

It is a shame because if they'd had a decent petrol engine then that's what I'd have been driving now. I still believe like you guys that the Freelander is a superb vehicle & it's ride/handling still amaze me considering it's a small 4x4. I also had a couple of mk1 Ravs in my time & although...

    2004 td4 freelander , manual ..

The prices you guys pay are amazing. I got my 03 Td4 auto (3 door) three & a half years ago with 52k on the clock for £4,700 from a dealer. There's no way I'd look at one with over 100k for £5000 though the full service history does count for a lot. Check how often the crankcase breather has...

    DIY Leakback Gauge

Hey Angeloc, superb piece of kit, well done with that. Always admire people who can come up with cheap homemade kit which is every bit as good as the "proper" stuff at rip-off prices.

    2 stroke oil in diesel

I thought red diesel also contained chemical markers as well as red dye to catch those up to no good. Surely those markers would not be present in 2 stroke as it's designed & sold to be added to roadgoing vehicles fuel. Someone must know the answer to this.

    V6 auto to manual ??

I thought BMW sold MG/Rover back in 2000 to the Phoenix Consortium. I also thought MG/Rover closed in 2005. Also thought that even under the Phoenix boys MG/Rover never made a profit which is surprising considering they had such a technological gem of an engine as you claim. Makes you wonder why...

    V6 auto to manual ??

I know nothing about this but if the V6 & Td4 auto both run the superb JATCO then could the Td4 manual gearbox not be somehow adapted. Probably not I realise but seems the only viable route to explore. As for the V6 being Rovers best engine, the V8 (you know the Buick one) boys might have...

    2 stroke oil in diesel

OK guys, I'll keep going with it. Only put 300ml in to a full tank so not too much though I can reduce it a little. Definitely not just the mornings but also during the day when it's cool & only had this after adding two stroke. It's subtle & not really a major issue but definitely noticeable...

    when companies overhaul....

Saw a program on discovery channel once called "A Car Is Born" or MG or 4X4 is born - there were a few similar ilk & they visited a transmission rebuild shop who rebuilt overdrives amongst other things for classic cars. They had a test rig which they bolted each unit to once rebuilt & ran them...

    Glowplugs TD4

The Td4 is a direct injection engine so will not be so reliant on glowplugs. They're there to help with emissions on startup & for assistance during subzero temperatures. In the old days some direct injection diesels weren't equipped with glowplugs at all. Indirect injection diesels, common from...

    another dum question

The Freelander has one of the easiest headlamp bulb changes of any car I've ever owned

    2 stroke oil in diesel

Is it just me or do you guys find that you have to crank over the engine for a couple of seconds longer before it'll fire on colder mornings since adding this stuff. I've put 300ml in to my first full tank & it definitely doesn't catch instantly as it did since before adding it. Not a huge...

injectors to clean or not to clean??

If it's a Td4 then leave well alone & use a good injector cleaner. If it's an L-series then it would probably respond well to having the injectors ultrasonically cleaned & recalibrated by an injector specialist.

    wheels

I once used them years ago. Took ages to do & went dirty brown within a couple of weeks & within a couple of months had mostly crumbled away. Not worth it in my view.

    Not sure yet. Help please.

I've owned several Fiats in my time & whilst they handled fairly well with peppy engines they were without exception shoddily built with poor electrics, weak gearboxes & poor quality steel (even if they had galvanised panels, ancillaries & suspension components/subframes still corroded heavily)...
