    td4 non starter sometimes

Failing crank sensor is said to give similar symptoms though usually they fail completely & don't start at all.

    Freelander sticking brakes

The shoes fit against the backplate at three points on each shoe & they are like raised dimpled pads. Unfortunately they rust & cause the shoe to bind to the backplate especially overnight after it's rained. The solution is to strip the shoes down, emery the backplate "pads" clean & use a little...

    Maf sensor position on a td4 ?

If your maf is knackered i.e. car undriveable then you'll need a new one. If it's just drifted a bit out of spec then the compensator will do.

    K Seal

More rubbish, if these things were so great then all the car magazines would rave about them & promote them like crazy........................wonder why they don't.

Has any one tried Ametech engine restore?

I remember that stuff. If it was any good it'd still be around & a well quoted top seller. If your engine is worn then only a rebuild will cure it. With piston slap it may well run for several thousand more miles without causing anything more than an annoyance when cold or not depending on...

    Knocking from underneath

Usual suspects for front knocking are / Droplinks (cheap & easy) Wishbone balljoint (replace whole wishbone - it's easier) Upper strut mount loose or knackered (try tightening the large centre nut first) Wishbone bushes - particularly rear (less likely but relatively easy to take off & check...

    New tyre fitted/steering wheel wrong

Trackace laser kit is cheaper than dunlop optical & is ideal for diy use. Probably not robust enough for constant garage use though but I definitely recommend it.

    Cenrtal locking door solonoids

Mines the same. First the drivers door went & now the passenger door. Drivers door latches are very rare secondhand, I picked one up off ebay a while ago & it was about £35. Passenger oners seem to be more commonly available used. As for new, Famous Four do them Famous Four - New Parts...

    New tyre fitted/steering wheel wrong

£60 just for tracking, what a rip off. I did my own tracking with a Trackace laser unit. Bit fiddly to set up but very accurate & superb piece of kit. I was lucky enough to pick up a unit off ebay for £56 from a guy who was selling off a lot of trial pre-production units. Exactly the same as...

New to the forum, new to Land Rover

over £5k - ouch. Is it a sport model at that money. I got my 03 Td4 auto Serengeti over 3 years ago with 52k on the clock, years mot etc. for £4,700. Unless yours is a Sport which seem to command a couple of grand premium then you've overpaid for it.

    my 2002 TD4

You need a specialist Landrover breaker preferably, & used seem to go for anywhere between £200-£400. New ones are around £750. Watch out for breakers who try to sell ones for the rover 75 claiming it's the same as the Td4, they aren't all the same - Td4s have variable vanes whereas not all...

newbie can anyone help me find my first freelander

Yes, they made diesel 3 doors, both auto & manual if you go for the later Td4. For £1000 you're better looking at a mark 1 Rav4 as you're unlikely to get a get a good diesel Freelander for that. As for petrol, you might get lucky...

    Black Oil

Oil shouldn't be as thick as tar but will always be black even just after a change. Just use good quality fully synthetic & change it regularly & it'll be ok. Your fuel filter is under the drivers side rear wheelarch but you have to remove the wheel & front half of the wheelarch liner to access...

    Freedlander Potential Purchase

At £1100 you'd be much better off with a mark 1 Rav4. Put a few hundred quid more in to the pot & you'll get an L-series diesel Freelander, a bit more & you're looking at a Td4. Don't like the fact it sounds tappety, it's already a sign that all might not be as it should be. Avoid this one.
