ok so now i've put the oil back in started car and still locking up in the ird, from the offside driveshaft removed, so now its a ird unit out, once out what should i be looking for??? cheers

lol i have removed offside driveshaft and checked the inside as much as poss and looks ok, would naff gearbox oil make it lock on every 3/3.5 turns???? cuz what i was thinking is, put old oil back in for test purpose and start car with offside shaft removed to see if it still locked, if...

lol ok so remove the offside wheel then the driveshaft (offside) and look at the nearside joint of the offside driveshaft that goes into the offside of the ird?? i got it????:clap2:

yeah i agree lol ok so tomo will take ird unit out and see if any signs of damage, is there a way i can run the car without the ird unit in place, like a drive shaft end in place if the shaft theat goes into the gear box just to start it and run to make sure it dont lock up as i dont want to...

ok so with this wear on the driveshaft its pointing to the ird, so this could be the 3/3.5 ratio locking up. so tomorrow i whip the ird unit out and how do i tell if it is worn from that point cheers

ok so we thinking its still a ird issue with the play from the nearside??? i thought the nearside went into the gearbox so wouldnt that be a auto box issue??

lol yeah could of been out by now but if i take it out how would i tell if it is buggered?? i always thought that you would have signs on the gears, can it bugger with no wear signs on gears?? cheers

yeah a bit of play before it seems to catch on nearside, so with this info are we thinking its a driveshaft issue???

ok so from under the car looking into the hole left by the prop input shaft the left is the crown wheel??? both of these seem fine no bits missing or chewed up cheers

to be honest i cant see the oil making it lock up on every 3/3.5 turn of the road wheel, when it was all on the ground so under body/engine weight it would roll under its own power in drive but no pedal applied without the lock up but as soon as applied power it locked. its got to be something...

hello from under the car you can see 2 gears 1 each side of where the prop input shaft goes, not sure if this is where they normally shear or further inside the unit. cheers

ok cheers will give that a try in the morning as i have just drained the oil out the auto box its a thin as water and black, doesn't smell burnt but don't look good, but would this make the wheels spin 3 times then lock up??? cheers

does anyone know if an ird was at fault can it be some other gears not insight that would cause this and have no bits of metal in the oil???? cheers

thats a thought, i have just checked the front wheels to see if the earlier type was fitted and catching on the callipers but not them
