    Deep Freeze Hippo No More...

No, I pulled the dipstick and there's mayo all round it. :( Thanks for the wishful thinking though :)

    Head Gasket Failure

Ew! I didn't really want to have to lift the liners out, if possible.

    Deep Freeze Hippo No More...

Yes, have re-filled it and bled through and it seems okay now but.... Had a head gasket go on the V8 once and that was totally classic: mayo in the oil cap, etc. I think what's happened here is that the engine is over-pressuring the cooling system and the water's being blasted out of the cap.

    Head Gasket Failure

Thanks everyone. When I bought it the guy told he it had had a new head gasket. Maybe they'd fitted the old single layer variety, or hadn't resealed it properly? I've already got a full head gasket replacement kit in the shed (including the MLS gasket and sealant), but was hoping not to have...

    Head Gasket Failure

Oh dear. Had the car five months and I've a horrible feeling the head gasket just blew, on the way back from dropping the kids off for their bus to school. It started overheating about five miles into the return journey. Managed to get it home without going into the red but when I get the...

What lurks behind the lower dash ?

Sounds horribly like your bulkhead might be rotten. What does it look like from the engine-bay side?

    help!!

Oh yes, especially if they all start pulling in different directions... "Return of the Purple Hamsters!" Have pity on us ex-pats (no pun intended) and give us something to giggle about on these long, dark nights in the frozen north... :)

    guess im stuck

Yep! Sounds pretty much the same as mine. I fitted the later design of hoses with the remote thermostat and my Hippo is a lot happier (Hippier?) now. Temperature guage comes up to about the 4 o'clock position and sticks there nicely.

    help!!

Can't help personally but it might be worth dropping an email to these guys: South London & Surrey Land Rover Club - Welcome to the SLSLRC!

    Help! My landrover Won't Start

There are a few for sale on Ebay at the moment. Changing it is a straightforward job and will save you loads.

    2004 freelander radio code ?

When we lost the code to the radio in my wife's Zafira I was able to get another by posting it in here: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=8 Might be worth a try?

    guess im stuck

I had a similar experience on my old V8i Discovery. Was fine under light load but when you wanted to accelerate in a hurry it fizzled on me. That turned out to be the fuel pump.

    help!!

Just checked mine and they're 13mm, but being a Landrover they could arguably be anything close to that, depending who has had their hands on it in the past.

water cooler in IRD - HELP PLEASE!!!!

Don't quote me on this but... I think the seal that goes around it is plastic so a tap-fit would probably suffice. I'd not expect the pressure inside the IRD to be too great - it's vented after all - and a press fit would only normally apply to a metal-to-metal fit.

    help!!

I'm with everyone else on this: seized transmission brake. Personally I wouldn't bother trying to free it if its that tight but would pull the rear prop as others have suggested, get it home, and work on it there. Take a big sheet of plastic to lay on if you don't want to get muddy, but...

    Deep Freeze Hippo No More...

Spent a happy hour on Sunday, with my youngest lad helping, fitting the later style radiator hoses to our 1.8 Hippo. It's run cold ever since we got it, and I was pretty sure it didn't have a thermostat fitted. I suspect this was done to help keep it cool after its head gasket was replaced by...

reduction box water leak Help please

I've had my Hippo for a few months now and one of the first things I found was that the hoses to the IRD cooler had been disconnected and plugged with screws, either because the cooler is leaking or because some numpty mechanic had forgotten to reconnect them at some point in the past. I have...

Clutch pedal goes to the floor

My Hippo has a slightly lazy clutch pedal if it hasn't been used for a while. Soon comes back to normal after an hour or two though. I've been told this is indicative of the master cylinder failing but I'll worry about that when it gets to be a problem. It looks to be a simple enough job to...

    Need advice

Camshaft timing belt can be had for a tenner on Ebay. The actual process of changing it is straightforward, if a little cramped in the engine bay. Just make sure the markers are all lined up and you should be fine. As regards the drive train, yes they do seem very heavy. I had a V8 Discovery...

    water in the boot locker

I'll add my name to the list of people suffering this as well. Might try putting a couple of sachets of dessicated silica gel in there to help keep it dry. If that fails then a drain hole sounds like the best course of action. Don't want my recovery rope to get mouldy.
