What to buy, What not to buy that is the question??

Personally, i'd go for a 110 csw 300tdi if i had @£10k to spend.... sole reason being... ease of maintenance/resale value. Although Discovery's are much more comfortable, they dont hold their value like a defender 110/90 & they have alot more gadgets to go wrong. Edit... Just read the...

Hi! Help me choose between 2 110's?

I agree... get the 300tdi, i'd also suggest steering well clear of main dealers (especially for repairs/servicing) as ive had nothing but poor workmanship at great expense from the x3 main dealers ive taken my 90 to. Your better off going to some back street family run business where they take...

    Last minute panic!

May be worth while taking out some sort of recovery package/insurance, as the last thing you'll want is to get halfway there and the engine/gearbox to xplode. Good Luck.

    Not another Noob question....

Speed humps.... a 90 will have you hitting the roof and breaking your neck... Get something with soft suspension for taking bumps at speed i.e. a Range Rover. Lowering a 90.... Not a good idea at all, as you may need to fork out for modified propshafts etc etc. Plus theres probably a very good...

    tyres

I agree... there are more risks involved with remoulded tyres, even though they are extensively tested and "most companies" use high quality carcasses. I was one of those people who could not afford "real" tyres and fitted my 90 with a set of 235/85 Greenway Machos, which i have to say found to...

So this is where u all hide

Yeah, frantically trying to save the £120,000. Then its a call to place my order for a "Bowler Nemesis" :D:D:D:D:D:D. Managed to save £1,500 + the value of my 90 so far:(, so its going to be a long wait. Think i'm going to have to set up a team of 10 4x4 enthusiasts who all want to...

fitting 2" lift spacers to my 90

It wouldn't just "come out" by jacking one wheel off the ground, needs additional pressure on the axle (i.e. a persons weight). A lot of off roaders buy dislocation cones purely for re-aligning the spring when it pops out... although if you fit jubilee clips to secure the top of the spring in...

fitting 2" lift spacers to my 90

Let me explain.... Your driving over an axle twister... your axle drops... spring dislocates. Hey-Presto. Same principle with jacking and getting someone to stand on the axle. (No need for spring compressor);)

    tyres

alledgedly.... a famous tyre supplier has been using carcasses that are not anywhere near the standard they should be for re-use as a remoulded tyre. Causing the new remould to explode/deflate rapidly as the tyre wall fails or the tread leaves the carcass. Perhaps buying remoulds is not a good...

    which winch?

Widget, your a star matey. Been enquiring about getting a winch myself, you've just helped me to scrap the elec winch idea and go for the more reliable hydraulic ones. Cheers.

fitting 2" lift spacers to my 90

Dont know about spacers.... but fitting larger springs can be done by jacking up vehicle and getting someone to stand on the end of the axle..... giving enough room to fit springs.... perhaps this will save the need for the compression tool you will be using.

    vegetable oil??

Yeah, its best to pay the tax.... you'll still be saving compared to if you filled up with just diesel and you'll be helping the enviroment too (which cant be a bad thing):D. Plus your motor will be better lubricated, have better compression etc etc.

    300 TDi engine number location

The 300tdi engine number is stamped on the cylinder block, RH side of engine above camshaft front cover plate.

Newbie! Need help on a Defender value please!

Get rid of the side steps.... before they get ripped off when you off road:D. Mud tyres are a must too, especially on pay'n'play sites.

    shaking 110

Sounds like UJ's to me too. Get underneath and check for any play. Wheel bearings you can feel through the steering and sometimes the brake pedal. Check your rear wheels for play (just incase).

    Defender 90 Suspension

Hope these pics help. Mine sit slightly leaning towards the front of the vehicle compared to the springs.... they are fine.
