Stupid Land Rover and stupid modifications to timing belt kits :(

I wouldn't worry about it. Its been running for many years with whatever set up is in there now. just replace like for like. The reason Land Rover changed the design is because some engines were having issues, if yours is not having problems don't worry about it. Mine is an early 300tdi and is...

    Brake Calliper bolts.

Irwin bolt grips are made just for this circumstance. I have used them successfully loads of times when I was ready to go for the welder.

Stripped a thread - Any ideas?

Porsche brake caliper bolts strip all the time and the approved method is to helicoil them. If it's good enough to secure the brakes on a 170mph sports car it should be fine for a belt tensioner.

Disco 2 MOT fail on chassis with a twist

The original tester was probably just about to offer you £200 to "take it off your hands" I've heard of this scam before.

    300tdi engine number 16L4*****

The Britpart question........ Britpart don't manufacture anything, they are a wholesaler. They buy in from suppliers, OEM, Genuine and Pattern parts and then put them in blue boxes. This is why the perceived quality of their parts is seemingly so variable, it all depends by who and where the...

    Evoke, I don't think I'll bother.

I think the Evoke might be a bit out of my price range with spares prices like this. http://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/watchdog-crazy-bill-for-evoque-speaker-cover-repair/ar-BBrNj4x?ocid=spartandhp Most of the cars I've owned over the years didn't cost as much as a door card for an Evoke.

    Bloody britpart!!!!!!,

Britpart don't make anything, everything in those blue boxes comes from third party suppliers. That's why the quality of their components is so unpredictable, it all depends how good the supplier is.

Fitting rear mud flats to a 90

I don't want to rain on your parade but if you've ordered one of those cheapy nut setters off ebay it won't be man enough to set stainless rivnuts. They are only really any good for the aluminium ones. I would just use some aluminium rivnuts, they are more than good enough to fasten mudflaps on...

Fitting rear mud flats to a 90

"but they are next to useless as there is no way they will ever grip enough to all me to get them to swash down" Not quite sure what you are getting at here? you need to use the proper tool or a clever combination of nuts and bolts to insert rivnuts properly. Have a look at this vid to see what...

    Rivnut tool

It looks very much like it, it works. At the end of the day for a home user I can't see the point in spending more. If I was using it every day then a better quality, costlier one might be worth it. It's a very simple device, the only "quality" issue I can see would be if you broke the mandrels...

    Rivnut tool

I've got a rivnut tool, it didn't cost much and had it for years, it's like a glorified riveter. does what it says on the tin. For the limited number of times I need to use it I see no need for anything fancier or more expensive.

Buying back your car after write off?

At the end of the day the car is your property, It's not a case of buying it back from the insurance company, it's belongs to you. The insurance company will have an arrangement with the salvage company and will expect to recoup as much as they can. I suspect in accepting their offer and then...

    Wheels and Tyres

I meant diameter rather than width :) You are of course correct about the theoretical width being different, they don't look that different in real life though. I suppose because of the different construction?

    Wheels and Tyres

If you like the standard look try and get hold of some 5 1/2J LWB rims and put 750x16 on them, they fill the arches and look better than the standard SWB 600x16. You can fit more modern rubber such as 235 85 R16 which are about the same size as 750x16 but make sure they are suitable for use with...

    DEFENDER 90 TD5 CHASSISCHASSIS

I'm pretty sure the presence of the actual numbers on the chassis is not legally relevant, it's the chassis provenance/history that matters, in that if it came to it you would have to prove legal ownership of the chassis and to do that you would have to somewhere along the line identify the...

    DEFENDER 90 TD5 CHASSISCHASSIS

The problem with all this is the rules the DVLA impose on us, for 2 reasons. 1) to ensure vehicles that are put on the road outside the type approval system are safe and 2) to control the recycling of stolen parts. I don't have the relevant info to hand but IIRC it's quite clear about using a...

    DEFENDER 90 TD5 CHASSISCHASSIS

Perhaps that's where the advice to cut the chassis number out of your old chassis and keep it with the vehicle comes from.
