    Frozen Handbrake?

I had my handbrake seize on once - there was a problem with the earth strap and the car earthed down the handbrake cable and melted the lining. If this is the case, using the adjuster on the drum will allow you to move. If it's crud in the drum, it won't!

    Steering Wheel Judder

Most likely the wheels given the change of wheels, but if not that, failing wheel bearings can cause funny effects under braking.

    Battery Cable???

It would be better to fix the starting issue. First check the heater plugs. First you know that they've gone is when all 4 have failed! Then things like starter motors and earths. If you do two batteries in parallel like this for starting, the cable ratings should be at least equal, and the...

    Steering Wheel

Drag link is dead easy and quicker to do if you have airbags. Only thing you may need is a good dose of penetrating oil on the threads or maybe heat them gently first. If your steering is badly out, it maybe your drag link is bent.

Hot fuel filter? Should i be worried?

Hi Discool, I can understand your impatience with new forum members who don't look to see if their problem is common. However, this issue of a hot fuel filter was news to me as a relatively new Disco 2 owner, and is not a common issue such as faulty door locks or oil ni injector looms. I...

    Door latch - help needed

Didn't need a lot of force - just a firm push I seem to remember. When fitting, you hook the end of the link (which is bent over 90 degrees) over the clip and then push it until it locks. Removal is reverse of this, so you will need to push the link towards the actuator and then lift it up...

    Door latch - help needed

When I did my rear door, I followed the manual and took the window glass out. It didn't take much longer and gave so much more room to work. I seem to remember the link came off easily then, though I couldn't disconnect it with the window in place. It does clip in but it's not that tight...

    Slow into 4th gear?

I've recently got a Td5 Auto and I think I know what the original poster means. Originally when we got it, and driving at town speeds, it seemed to stay in third when driving at a steady 30. The kack we found was to go up to about 35 and then ease off - the box would change up and stay in 4th...

    300tdi cutting out

How much fuel have you got in the tank? I had a problem in Zimbabwe when I had a 300Tdi that we got some poor quality fuel. Car would run beautifully until down to about quarter tank, and then start cutting out, particularly under acceleration. Problem was the fuel pickup in the tank. It got...

    Panhard rod bolts

Strange - I would have though they would be different lengths, though 5mm isn't a great difference. I presume the thread is the same on both, other than the number of turns? The wonders of owning a Discovery! Cheers!

how do you know whe your front springs need replacing?

My Tdi I took out to Zimbabwe was still on the original springs and shocks after 200,000km, so I think your coil springs should be good for a while unless they've been harshly treated or you have a heavy bull bar or winch. Typically first sign of a problem is them snapping (happened to my...

    Panhard rod bolts

Just had a look at the Microcat. The end that bolts onto the chassis is part ANR4386, Bolt-Flanged Hex M16 x 70 The one that goes onto the axle is part RDI100020, flanged Hex M16 x 75, though when you look at the picture, it looks like it may be 12 sided. I think better go on the length - I...

    Rubber Drain Offs????

Almost certainly your problem - they block easily in dry dusty conditions. You end up with a wet floor, which can be hot - I assume that the water must run over the outside of the heater matrix. If you have a heater matrix leaking, the car tends to steam up - I've had both problems in the past!

    Retro fitting lumbar support

We find that the passenger seat in our Discovery 2 GS is not very comfortable on long journeys as it does not have lumbar support even though the drivers seat does have it. Anyone know if it is possible to retrofit it to a seat? If so, what parts are required. Alternatively, anyone know of a...

    Alpine Windows

What vehicle? The alpine lights are held in by a rubber strip in the centre of the window rubbers on Discovery 1's - pull that strip out and the window will then pop out quite easily. The only reason I ever took mine out was to get into the car when I had locked my keys in it! Quite easy to...

    How do I clear the A/C drain(s)

A pleasure to be able to help. We lived in Zimbabwe at the time, and with the dry dusty conditions there, we had to clear these every year or so! Nice to know that us hubby's are still lovely and useful! Cheers!

    Clutch gave up the ghost

You may find it easier to take the engine out - a Rangies expert I know and the Haynes Manual both suggest this. It's easier to align when putting back together - trying to manouvre the gearbox sitting on a couple of trolley jacks aint the easiest thing to do, Even if you do take the gearbox...

    Passenger Door Window

Totally agree - mine made a hell of a bang when it went. On the 300 Tdi, there are only three tiny spot welds holding the toothed arm on. Common failure point.

Using different size tyres on back and front axles .... is it detramental ??

I wouldn't advise it if you plan on doing any long distances or high speeds. Once in Botswana, when I had a puncture, I ran with one Michelin and three Bridgestones, all 205/R16. Driving on soft sand, I still managed to wind up the transmission! I think your risk is the centre differential...
