    TD5 diagnostics.

Try MID Engineering just outside Wantage - they look after my Disco 2 and are very helpful. Tel 01235 771114. Their labour rates are much less than main dealer as well. Cheers!

Torque converter taking a while to lock up properly

The gearbox does not lock up until the fluid has got up to temperature - I leave Wantage and drive to Didcot, about 6 miles, and it frequently doesn't lock up. I did a google and found Discovery II Transmission and Transfer Case  MuddyOval.com, which explains what is going on. It mentions...

    Maximum towing weight...

Just had a quick glance at the Disco II manual, That says for trailers up tp 2000kg, car can be loaded to maximum vehcle weight. Maximum tow hitch weight is 150kg For trailers up to 3500kg, coil spring vehicles can only carry driver+passenger, or equivalent load. If airprung, load can be...

    Good news and bad news!

Got the hose on the car tonight, and couldn't get the leak to happen. Having said that, I straightened out the incorrectly routed hose, so the tray could now drain. Having swapped the sunroof motors (front one has died!), and opening the roof, it looks like the glas seal is not working - it...

    Good news and bad news!

I think you are right. While the drain tubes can handle a small amount of leakage, the amount of water I'm getting is obvously too much - I think new seals are needed. It rained last night, and I identified two further leaks - rear sunroof at the rear corner and left hand side alpine light...

    Good news and bad news!

Good News - Disco II passed it's MOT today with no advisories - good clean vehicle said the examiner. Bad news, drove back home - we've had some rain today and the car thoughtfully collected it and dumped it on my lap! I repaired a broken drain tube about 5 months ago, and did that without...

    Handbrake problems...

Check your earths!!! I know it sounds strange but if your earth is bad, it will earth through the handbrake cable, and melt the inner lining, leading to a sticky handbrake! Had this happen to my 300Tdi. Cheers!

200Tdi Engine or Gbox for clutch change?

Very unlikely - you're running about 2-3 foot of extension bar along the top of the gearbox, and may need a UJ as well. It was my mate under the car but I gather there wasn't a lot of room. As I said in a previous post, definitely worth having someone holding the socket on to the bolt head...

    AIr in Fuel Line

Does the problem affect only the first start in the morning? If so, do you park with the engine higher than the rear? If so, it's likely that the internal diaphragm of the fuel lift pump has gone, and that is letting air in which allows the fuel to drain back into the tank. I had that...

    AIr in Fuel Line

Autos have the drive by wire EDC system, which may be different, but as far as I know, the 300 Tdi is a totally mechanical system. As another poster has said, the system is largely self bleeding. If you do need to bleed, first loosen bleed screw on top of fuel filter, and then either...

    Disco 1 200Tdi and 300Tdi Props

The OE one I got from Paddocks was a GKN part. I suspect that is the same as the ones LR use! As do LR still sell them, they are fitted to Disco 2's as well, so I suspect yes.

    Disco 1 200Tdi and 300Tdi Props

Absolutely no point. In 12 years in Zimbabwe, mine only needed changing once, even though the car did some serious off roading. They are smoother and as jamesmartin says they smooth the transmission. They're only £16.50 from Paddocks so they're not exactly expensive, and they are a doddle to...

200Tdi Engine or Gbox for clutch change?

I changed the clutch (Discovery 300Tdi) on a friends drive in Zimbabwe - we took the engine out. It much easier to work on that way - the gearbox is heavy and difficult to manoeuvre when you are under the car. You need a good hoist and a smooth enough surface for it to run on as you will want...

xyz special fitting tool how does it work

I had a look at the diagrams in Rave. It looks like the tool fits over the gearbox shaft on the flats, and then the other end hooks into a recess in the switch. I've never done it, but looking at the picture, I would have thought that you could get the adjustment pretty close by sight, if you...

power steering pump pulley end float D1 300tdi

It it is a new pump, Paddocks have them starting at £48 ex vat. I bought one of theirs for my 300Tdi, and it lasted longer than the original. There's nothing serviceable in the pump from what I remember. Cheers!

    Rear parking sensor sounder

According to Rave, there is a trim panel in the rear of the luggage compartment on the left hand side. There is a bracket in there mounted in the E post, with the sounder in one side, the ECU on the other side. Sounder original part number is YWG000061, though this appears to have been...

Disco II TD5 cuts out when put handbrake off

Normally, the engine has an earthing strap to the chassis and the negative on the battery is akso connected to the chassis. If these fail, electricity will try and find the next easiest route, and unfortunately on Land Rovers, the next easiest is through the handbrake cable. I extreme cases it...
