    Clutch?

I had similar problems when I had a Tdi. That was clutch release bearing collapsing. New clutch sorted it all out (including new bearing). Rattle you hear is bits of bearing, which stops when put under pressure as you depress clutch. Mine fell to pieces when we opened it up. Cheers!

    Td5 Up hill struggle

Just had a look at the Discovery I workshop manual on Rave. Best description is slip in all forward gears. First diagnostic is a pressure check - if no or very low pressure, blocked filter or pump fault. Low pressure - Restricted filter or sticking primary regulator. Normal pressure - Fault...

    300tdi edc timing tool set

Found this - bit pricey and got everything you should need and more! 4x4 Store. Interestingly, the list of parts at the end seems to indicate that the only difference is the pin into the flywheel. Further search turned up Dingocroft Engine Tools - Part 1. There you can get the tools...

    New Key Required

Try MID Engineering (01235771114) just south of Wantage. They're a bit cheaper than dealers and seem a good bunch of guys. A lot of Disco's round here have their wheel covers on the spare! Cheers!

    Key broken in Barrel

If you want to keep the same keys, Land Rover can supply a replacement ignition switch for about £250 - you have to supply your vehicle numbers and they match it up. If you go for a second hand barrel, you will end up having to carry two keys - one to open the doors in an emergency (or I...

how much to trust roof bars?

When I Lived in Zimbabwe, I did a lot of research into roof racks, particularly for off road use. In the end I bought a trailer, as a roof rack that would have taken the load would probably have damaged the vehicle. While there are many stories of people carrying large loads on Dicso roofracks...

Disco 2 wet drivers floor well

Definitely - either side of the gearbox in the transmission tunnel. Black pipe comes down and ends in a little "squid" like thing which is supposed to let water out but prevent dirt getting in. Problem is dust and water make mud which blocks the drain.

Replacement Ignition Keys for Disco TD5

I bought from this lady New Remote Key Case Land Rover Discovery 2 | eBay and the case was fine. Easy to move the circuit board and we got a local locksmith to cut the blade. Cheers!

    Bell houseing nuts

As other poster said, completely remove engine mounts. Lower engine as low as it can go. That should allow access. Get 2 to 3 feet of extension bars and ratchet. One person slides this along the top of the gearbox from underneath the car. A second person working in the engine bay should be...

300TDi Clutch Replacement Tips for DIY?

I go with the guys who say engine out - the gearbox is very heavy and an awkward shape. When I had a Tdi I took the engine out to replace the release bearing - after 180,000km the plate was still fine but the bearing was totally shot. Best tip I can give is getting the top bellhousing bolts...

    cruise control or not to?

Definitely worth doing. Great for helping you keep to speed limits, as well as making for very relaxed cruising. Cheers!

    TD5 2003 Autobox needed

Ashcroft Transmissions seem to know a lot about them - there's a lot of info on their website. No personal experience of them though. Cheers!

    Heavy power steering

I had exactly the same problem - I had dented the steering damper. When it moved in, steering was stiff. Might be worth taking dmper off and seeing if that is the problem, though you might get steering vibration. Make sure you keep a note of where all the nuts washers and bushes are when...

Faulty handbrake leads to an unexpected trip!!!

Hi, Sounds like a siezed cable. If you have a bad earth, they will earth along the handbrake cable, and melt the inner lining, leading to a jammed cable. I had this happend on my 300Tdi Disco. It could also explain your poor starting. Cheers!

    Hot fuel filter?

Hot is definitely possible. Fuel flow is from tank to filter at "low" pressure, back to pump in tank, then at 400 bar up to injectors - that's enough to get it quite warm! Fuel which is not used is then returned to the tank via a fuel cooler (I think that is the right order) which uses engine...

    Brake problem, maybe disc related?

I'd certainly check the wheel bearings. When I had a tdi, I had a problem with it pulling under braking. When the guy took the wheel bearings out, most were blue (overheated) and one of the front ones was collapsing. When braking, this caused the wheel to twist causing the pull to one side...

    300tdi injector clamp tightness problem

First time I overdid one of those stids and it broke I nearly had a heart attack! However, the design on the clamps is to prevent overtightening. The studs have a narrow waist so they will shear, instead of damaging the threads in the head, and the shear point will be above the head so you cn...

    Air con intermittent

Just had a look at Rave. There are various switches that will switch off the aircon. Extract below (I assume you've got EDC as it's an auto), but the main ones are the ones monitoring the refrigerant pressure (too low or high will switch off aircon), and the evaporator temp switch - that should...

    Air con intermittent

One thing I do know is that the aircon turns off if the engine overheats. You shouldn't be overheating that quickly, but maybe you've got a dodgy temp sensor. Other posters suggestion sounds likely as well. Cheers!
