Since the price on parts can be astronomical and they can take a bump is a good chance you’d get an ‘uneconomic repair’ type damaged one that could be sorted. You’ll have to be clever sourcing the astronomical parts to fix it though.

There should be a bleed hole on the thermostat - some patent parts don’t have it. It should sit at the top (12 o’clock position)

The sensor will cause sporadic readings if faulty - it won’t stop a fire being hot - so it’s not that.

If you want to change the sensor also you go via the inlet manifold. Disconnect battery (standard procedure) Intercooler ducts off, Inlet manifold off. This is simplified there will be gremlins along the way like spill pipes to remove, brittle wires, possible snapped threads etc. later plastic...
